A Milestone!

So baby girl sat up today for the first time. And no, she wasn’t fully reclined but close enough! This has been a busy last couple of days starting at the other side of the weekend. We visited with friends, watched movies, and generally disregarded our chores. Chores schmores I say.

Tomorrow is Tuesday that means Abby M. is coming! I am so anxious. You wouldn’t think it but I’m nervous. We can’t wait to meet her… or at least see a picture.

I’m so very sleepy. I kept saying I would catch up once the weekend was over but I just can’t seem to. I have class tomorrow and haven’t even attempted to look at the readings. I might not go in the morning. Maybe I should send an email now… no, no I’d better go because apparently there’s an exam on Thursday. An exam you say? After two weeks you ask? Yup… because these crazy summer classes only run 6 weeks so this week is actually the mid point. I’d better get right on that 25 page paper.

How do people do this and not go insane?

Any Title Ideas?

So today was a lot busier than I foresaw. I ended up going into work at the last minute and then spending an hour and forty five minutes in traffic on the way back. Let’s see, new on Chase’s list… abusing plants. She has a new thing with her hands… she is constantly after something… scritch scritch scritch. Today she reached for a toy I was holding while Ben had her on his lap. That was kind of cool. Her reach was accompanied by a squawk, presumable a) to get my attention and b) to let me know she wanted what I had. I’ve never seen her do that before. I have her mashed avocado thinned with a little milk tonight. She gobble it up and loved every bite of it!

I’ve been working on the sewing project I alluded to when I bought the new machine. Ha! I bet you thought I’d forgotten. I don’t have much time to get to it but I work on it whenever I have a minute. I’m almost done with the top. It just needs button and a hem. I should have taken the back too. It’s just a half back… to go with the halter front with a stretchy elastic top to keep it in place. So far so good.

There’s Such a Thing as Good Grief, Just Ask Charlie Brown

It’s a bird it’s a plane! No, sillies it’s not Super Grover but still, you wouldn’t believe what I saw today! I’m in the backyard with Chase minding my own business (our own business?) when I finally key into the fact that I’ve been hearing this buzzing sound. I look around and see flying over the fence… the Goodyear Blimp! Ok, not that exciting but still it was a curious blip in an otherwise uneventful day.

I was up at bat in both of my classes. That is to say, that I had cases assigned to go over both in my morning class and my afternoon class. The case I had this morning was easy… too much testosterone + amateur sports = tort liability for assault and battery. The catch was.. I had to get up and physically demonstrate how the battery went down. Whatever, it was fine. The next case? Another cute girl… this time wearing a glorified wife beater (not your bf’s tank and small enough to fit a tiny girl) and a tiny jean skirt. I don’t usually like to blog about school but this was too funny. This role playing went on for what seemed like hours and was followed by… you guessed it yet another case acted out by a cute girl. Very suspicious don’t you think? I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt as he ended the class with a guy acting out a case but still.

In my afternoon class, I led a discussion about personal jurisdiction in the internet age. My job was to help the class explore what constitutes minimum contacts such that you could be subject to litigation in some other state for something that happened on the internet… blah blah blah. I had forgotten how exhilerating it feels to have all those eyes on you. I think the guy beside me was taking notes… which was fine because I had actually prepared. I know, shocking! Somehow over the course of the discussion gun racks came up. Oh, I remember it came up during a discussion about a case where Connecticut entered into an agreement with Virginia to have them house their surplus of inmates. The warden down there evidently had some confederate memorabilia which in a stream of consciousness type string of jokes led to talk about gun racks etc. But all of that is not important. The funny part is that the guy sitting two seats down sort of under his breath interjects “an entire rack…” which I immediately picked up on. I didn’t have time to confirm but come on..

What a Long Frickin Day

I felt good up until like 20 minutes ago. At any rate, earlier I saw something hilarious. I saw a commercial that urged viewers to call if they had suffered a heart attack or death as a result of using a prescription med…. uh…ok. In other news, I also saw a woman’s skirt get blown up by the wind. I’m adding that to the same file where I keep the memory of seeing a guy slip on a banana peel. If I were playing once in a lifetime event bingo my bingo dabber would be almost dry. Hopefully this means I’ll only witness someone getting hit by lightning as opposed to getting hit myself. Wait though, it seems wrong to wish that. Let’s say I hope I don’t get hit by lightning and never witness such an event either and call it even.

So it’s 10. I still have to review my reading for tomorrow because I’m supposed to lead a class discussion in the afternoon AND I’m on deck to talk about a case in my other class too. I have a headache just thinking about it but luckily I don’t think it’s supposed to be very intense and there are only like 10 people in the class.

I tried the Moby today. I really liked it. It’s a lot more comfortable than the baby bjorn ever was but it’s just a really long piece of fabric with a special method to tie it. Anyway, no loss to me because it was F-R-E-E! I think I’ll get a lot of use out of it if for no other reason than now I can just leave the ring sling at work.

Some dude on the street today told me I look like Sade. I started to say, you should see my sister! But thought better of making small talk with an arguably indigent man on the street. So I kept walking.

Oh! We got new neighbors… or are getting. Apparently that lady closed on her house on Monday. A big ole moving truck pulled up this morning but as of yet we haven’t seen any actual people. I had Ben peep on the movers. I asked him what kind of furniture they had and he described it as “old.” Old I said… old like ours or like antique. He specified antique. My prediction? The older couple from Georgia that came to look at the house. I think they had a middle school aged son as I recall it. We’ll see though.

Peas Porridge Hot

Today we tried peas.  I’m looking at the army green sludge in the container and thinking she will never go for this after delicious peaches and sweet potatoes so good I could eat them.  But lo and behold the peas are her fav.  I still can’t believe it.  She didn’t waste a smidgen of precious delicious pea goodness.  You’re only supposed to need like 300 extra calories a day while nursing but I’ll tell ya I never really came down off the your pregnant eat whatever you want thing.  Happily the pounds came off but honestly, I’m sneaking tastes of baby food and we had steak for dinner and there was no chance of getting a pic because I wolfed it down.  The dogs were watching me not because they were begging, I seriously think they were impressed.

Not much else happened today, but I had class and our babysitter came.  I was gone for two hours and I freaked out a little but  it wasn’t too bad overall.  Chase seemed to really like her and seemed happy when I got home.  After all, Ben is here so I guess that  makes me feel pretty good about the whole arrangement.

So let me tell you why message boards are lame.  Sarah, your post about online classes got me thinking.  There are two message boards I visit.  One is about cooking, the other babies.  I registered at both sites so I can post but I never do.  Why?  Because I don’t have anything to say.  I also don’t post because I read what other people write and think to myself.. are they just posting to post or do they really want a response to that (which is what I was trying to explain wanting to avoid in my last sentence)?  It just all comes across as very fake but people get way wrapped up in it.  Somehow I lack the gene that controls message boarding.  I’m just not meant to be  a member of either of those two online communities even though there have been times with respect to both boards that I’ve really wanted to get involved.  It’s just not in the cards I spose.
