Christmas in July

It came, it came! It’s already here! I went and picked up my new machine today. Awesome. I tried to describe it to Danielle by likening it to a Honda Accord and still think that it was a pretty apt description. It’s not the base model I was driving before but it’s certainly not a BMW either. It’s just right! It does some little embroidery designs but is not the kind of embroidery machine that lets you upload all kinds of different designs. It does numbers and letters too and the beauty of having a machine made in Sweden is that now I can give our children names with umlauts in them.

Of course in spite of having all the materials available AND having a free night I can’t work on anything because the dining room is the temporary living room. At least until the new couch gets here and the old one gets taken away (assuming that actually happens but I’m not holding my breath). Have you ever wondered what was going on in your house in 1965?

We found this behind the fireplace while we were doing the demo. Things aren’t looking too bad. Nothing a little spackle won’t take care of anyway.

Chase has officially maxed out on diaper sizes. I broke down and bought some 5’s today. The 4’s just weren’t cutting it anymore. This is it, I can’t put my infant in pull ups so she’s going to have to stay the course here for a little while. She’s been lunging at things and rolling onto her belly but still doesn’t quite grasp crawling. I give her another 4 days or so. By the time we get back from the beach she’ll probably be all over the place and I’ll be trying to babyproof this death trap. We have all of these huge doorless openings between rooms and I’m thinking that maybe a new rug would be nice for the living room. I’m not talking one of the MANY 15 dollar ikea specials we’ve had over the years. I’m talking a REAL area rug. This, of course, would necessitate a gate… for a doorway that’s huge. I checked them out today at BRU and they have some huge extend-a-gate getup for 100 bucks. 100 bucks! I guess this is one of those things you only need to buy once and lasts forever? We already need to put another gate at the bottom of the steps to go upstairs and at the top of the steps to go downstairs. 500 bucks worth of gates later and we should be well on our way to a baby-proof home.

I made a quick dinner of shrimp picatta from the America’s Test Kitchen mag I bought. It was pretty good although I think the shrimp to pasta ratio is a little off. I would use like 3/4 of a pound instead of a pound of pasta. I’ve been slacking on cooking and we’ve been eating a lot of Chipotle, Five Guys, and Donna’s. So I’ve been trying to cruise some of my mags for ideas now that I’m not totally swamped anymore. They’ve been sitting on the table for a couple of days driving Chase mad. Finally today she got her little hands on what she wanted. I like to keep age appropriate material around you know… just in case of moments like these.
