On Being More Efficient

whos-there.jpg
I kind of have to be. I’m running shorter and shorter on time with every passing day. I survived the first day of classes. Last semester I took commercial transactions. I’m following that up with debtors and creditors and sale and leases. The beauty of this arrangement is that all of those classes focus on the same code provisions so I a) only had to buy one code book for all three classes and b) should have a leg up on the competition assuming they’re not all doing the same thing.

There’s not a whole lot else going on around here. I’m trying to stay on top of housework which is difficult. I give myself credit for doing such a good job while classes were out and wish for a cleaning lady. One day. The closer was on tonight and I Was hoping to have all of my reading out of the way by 11 to watch but that didn’t happen. Thankfully it’s safely stored in my TiVo’s brain. It will still be there tomorrow. Ben cooked tonight. He did porkchops and they were really good. I can’t cook pork chops to save my life. I mean their passable but certainly not be described as succulent and delicious. I guess it comes from not having them prepared at home. I just don’t really “get” pork. Read the rest of this entry »

Paging Dr. Kirkland

Or I suppose Dr. Archer since Target seems to have beaten them to the punch.  I got an invitation in the mail on Thursday to visit the Target clinic.  I’m not even kidding.  I did participate in the sidewalk sale today.  I made 13 bucks.  I mean I’m 13 bucks richer, sure, but I could hardly give that crap away.  I’m just going to have Goodwill come and take it all away.  I have to get rid of some old junk to make way for new junk.  I did turn some of that profit around and picked up some new to her stuff for Chase.  I like to call in reinvesting in the community.

A Rose By Any Other Name

rose.jpg
August 14th… came and went and I’m ashamed to admit that I forgot. I did folks, I forgot my own anniversary. How sad is that? There’s a knock at the door, I open it, look at the man with the flowers and say are those for me? I’m like wow, Ben! Flowers! Thanks! I still didn’t get it. Because Ben is the best he was very understanding about it. He was like don’t worry about it you have plenty of other things on your mind which is very, very true.

I went and bought my books yesterday. It’s been a long time since I’ve taken a FULL course load. Um… books are expensive.  I think I spent more on books than I did on my sewing machine.  Books!  I’m glad that they came in two heavy ass bags or I’d be feeling cheated. Guess I should crack em open some time this weekend eh? I should probably list my books from last semester on Amazon. We’ll see if I ever get around to it. We were supposed to participate in a community sidewalk sale tomorrow but Read the rest of this entry »

Your Burger… Has No Bun

reaching.jpg
It’s Wednesday again! Wednesday has got to be the best day of the week! Poor girl. The man that created the world’s most decadent burger didn’t like her faux crabby patty sandwiched between two crisp leaves of lettuce. I wouldn’t have either!

Danielle saved me today by pointing out an important and interesting thing. Which as it turns out is also relevant to me and she brought it to my attention not a minute to soon. I’ve been feeling a little crazy, a little lonely, a little confused. Everybody’s away on vacation or working or otherwise engaged so no one is around to hang out with me. In a last ditch attempt to engage in some face to face interaction with a human other than my husband I drove Chase all the way to the big lavish playground. You want to know how many kids where there today with the perfect weather and all? ZERO not one not a single child. Right as I was about to just totally go over the edge she’s like hey… Read the rest of this entry »

My New Look

dsc_0097.jpgOk, so check it out. My post last night was all the inspiration that Ben needed to get the thing done. His part anyway…

Things are gearing up to get busy here again. Classes start next week and I am NOT looking forward to that. Although I always wondered how it would feel to start the first semester of my last year! It’s not as exciting as I thought it would be. I just can’t wait for this all to be over.

Today was exponentially better than yesterday. Chase had a weight check appointment today. she’s grown a little longer and a little rounder in the last month but the doctor seemed satisfied that she seems happy and that she’ll likely start to thin out as she gets more mobile. So far she’s getting pretty smooth at dropping to her belly from a sitting position and then rolling and rolling to get to what she wants or alternately squiggling in a circle of pushing herself backward (and usually away form whatever she’s trying to reach). Corn Saute and Three Bean Salad

dsc_0026.JPGPre-season football is interfering with progress on my site. I guess I should write off any more home improvement projects since the season is getting ready to start. *sigh*

We had a nice supper tonight. They had more wild caught salmon at Costco. I’m still blown away by the color but the flavor is excellent too. I didn’t do anything fancy to the fish. Salt, pepper, a little garlic, a sprinkling of chili powder, and a dash of chipotle tabasco. On the side I made the corn saute with Canadian bacon, potatoes, and peppers from Fine Cooking #87. This was yet another great recipe from the most recent issue. Ok, to be truthful I made a lot of substitutions but I think that I stayed true to the spirit of the dish… Basically, I subbed kielbasa for the bacon and didn’t have any green tobasco. Between Texas Pete, red jalapeno pepper sauce and chipotle tabasco I opted for the chipotle because it’s smoky and delicious and because I put it on the fish too. I thought that it was just really tasty and a very good accompaniment to the fish. Read the rest of this entry »

An Onion?

I just did this quiz where your responses to a series of questions determines your veg equivalent. Chase is a sweet potato but evidently I’m an onion! That can’t be right..

A Visitor!

Finally a break in the monotony! Erin was up this way today and took the time out to visit us. In my excitement I said yes to Chase when she said I don’t need my afternoon nap, right mom? She managed ok but started to get antsy by dinner time. To make up for it I served pears and mangoes which made her particularly happy. I chilled a bottle of sauvignon blanc that we brought back with us last week. It was a nice bottle from Henry of Pelham. Our visit was so enjoyable… thank you Erin for coming! I made guacamole too and then proceeded to stuff it all down my gullet as quickly as possible. I can’t even be sure that my guest got any, poor form I know. I’d had a glass of wine already I think I remember saying something about geting a spoon. I’m working on it, hehe. Saveur published the Rosa Mexicana recipe in this month’s edition.
