chase-and-mike-play.jpgToday was a better day! No more crying all day. What a relief. I’m glad that Chase is feeling better and to celebrate we both took a long nap this afternoon. We had a moderately busy day that was going well… until all our plans were foiled. After our long nap we got ready to head out to Costco.

I thoroughly cleaned the fridge last night. Turns out that all of those times I stood in front of the fridge wondering why it was so full but we didn’t have any food that I wasn’t going insane. I was brutal, took no prisoners, there’s virtually nothing left. So I guess we’ll make the trip tomorrow… again. That sucks to bad but it has to be done. We’re out of coffee! Out of coffee people! So because I had planned to cook whatever we bought for dinner we stopped to eat at the Silver Mood Diner of Perry Hall. Continue

big-smile.jpg Today was one of those days. Ben had to be in DC today so our day started with a trip to the train station to drop him off. From there we went to get coffee, realized that it was to cold out for what we had on and decided to go home for a sweater. At home, we got a call from Ben saying that due to a series of comedic errors he had missed the 8:10 train. I think that when he called he infected me. Continue

watching-mommy.jpgMommy has an awesome Vera Bradley makeup bag. Chase loooves mommy’s bag but it’s full of dangerous things like zit cream and nail clippers. So… I made Chase her own awesome makeup bag. I fashioned it from a Clinique bonus gift and filled it with neat things like a child-proof pill bottle with beans inside for a rattle and an old pacifier, and an empty plastic bottle. I can’t fool Chase by putting in actual toys. I have to use things that mommy might actually have in her bag. Why bother you say? Oh, so I can go through my daily facial care routine without having to wrestle my little monkey for the moisturizer. Continue

chasey.jpg Nerf life is a new concept I learned about today. I assure you I have to problem with the concept of nerf life and think I could easily adapt to it.
Our new sitter came today. She really seems to have a good vibe with Chase. I’m really hoping that this works out. It was hard to make the decision to let the other one go but I’m sure that we did the right thing. She’ll be back on Thursday but I don’t have class so I’ll be home to observe. This is a big change for me. The old me (the BC me… before Chase) would probably have let it slide. It’s been a real eye opener to see how easily being an advocate for your child comes. I still find it hard to challenge doctors but Ben is really good at it so he picks up where I leave off.

I think coffee has lost all of its power over me. I was literally falling asleep while sipping a cup in class last night. I should do some research on the symptoms of caffeine overdose. What will I do if the coffee stops working? Anyone have any ideas for something stronger?? Speaking of coffee, Chase and I checked out a new place today. Continue

pasta-gremolata.jpg We had this for dinner tonight. Just when I thought I was feeling too tired and too lazy to cook I remembered this recipe. It’s pretty much made completely of pantry items. The guacamole garden is still fruitful with jalapenos and I almost always have parsley and lemons on hand. I was impressed by how simple and delicious this dish was. I will definitely be making this again. Continue

not-how-this-is-supposed-to-work.jpg

Well, I’m glad that you all liked my little outtakes video. Those were really nice comments you left! Maybe they’ll encourage me to have new and interesting things more often? And yes, as you can tell I’m still watching the office but I’m on season 3 now!

I can’t believe it’s Sunday already.

hash.jpgI made this for dinner tonight and served it with a simple salad of mixed greens. We both found this dish to have a great balance of sweet and salty flavors. I will definitely be making this again during the fall apple season. The plum torte was a perfect follow up to this meal. I know, how highbrow can it be with mustard AND ketchup BUT it’s ok because the mustard is dijon and there’s flat leaf parsley not to mention that my latent Québécoise tendencies would have me adding ketchup after the fact anyway. cake.jpgI’ll admit this torte is no knoedel but it’s a damn good substitute if you, like me, can’t get your good for nothing friends and family to enjoy a nice plum dumpling with you. We ate almost half of it fresh out of the oven. I didn’t even bother to dig out my springform pan. I used a 2″ high 8″ round pan lined on the bottom with parchment and had no trouble getting it out. I didn’t bother to sift the flour either and the cake was still moist and light. I could eat this cake all day and all night, I’m swooning. Oh, and if you wash it down with ice water it negates all of the calories in the torte itself. This recipe was first printed in The New York Times in 1981. Continue
