Moist Apple-Walnut Cake

dsc_0030.jpgApples are at the farmer’s market and I’m feeling all fall and festive. I bought a big basket of apples today and make some applesauce for Chase and to use it in this cake per the recipe. The cake is good but the batter is delicious. No really, the batter was good I don’t care if you’re not supposed to eat raw eggs. The cake came out moist and delicious and tender as promised and they didn’t skimp on the topping either which I like. I didn’t have patience to look for my 13×9 so I made a 9×9 and a loaf pan that I’ll freeze for later.

Yikes Teeth!

yikes.jpg My poor girl has been coping as well as she can. I think about it obsessively because I worry about her being in pain and the amount of Tylenol that we’re giving her. Mostly I’m obsessing because I can’t tell for sure what’s really going on and that’s the most frustrating part. That and the fact that WILL NOT let me look in her mouth under any circumstances. I did get a two second peek and I think I see the little teethies under her gums. So of course I went online to see if I could find some other pictures but I guess no babies let their parents look in their mouths let alone take pictures because there aren’t any. Anyway, the pediatrician said we could safely administer Tylenol at bedtime for a week as long as we monitor her to make sure she doesn’t have an ear infection. Read the rest of this entry »

Oh Oh 911

phoney.jpg So I’m sitting at my desk and I hear behn behn behn behn boop boop beep boop. My head snaps around to see Chase holding the phone and smiling at herself. GE’s strategic placement of the talk and speaker buttons apparently makes it easy for nimble little fingers to dial a friend. I think she hit something like 4667… which is fine so long as she’s not calling 911. I know what you’re going to say Danielle. “I got Pocahontas.”

I’ve been reading this blog and this blog . Then I got an email from Papa Luis and got to reminiscing about the Italian Market and well all the Asian superstores there. So I did a little on line sleuthing to figure out if there were any Asian markets around here. Turns out there are a couple not too far away. So Chase and I went on an adventure. A Little Mid-Week Update

little-red.jpg As a little diversion we went to the mall after we were finished running errands. Coincidentally I got an email this morning from Gymoboree. They’re having one of their sales where all regularly priced items are reduced to either 10 or 20 dollars. Basically, all items up to 40 bucks are reduced to 20.. excellent. When I saw this little red riding hood-esque cape I knew we had to have it. I picked up some socks for 75 cents a pair too. You can’t beat that and I don’t feel bad since I am still gainfully employed. It’s the end of the season so everyone is having huge sales. I found a cool pair of shoes and they are oh so me and were oh so cheap. I am very pleased with them and they’re not your mama’s Keds. I finally picked up a thank you for the babysitter we had this summer. She just moved into a new place off campus so I picked up a brownie pan and package of Barefoot Contessa brownie mix. Who knows if it’s any good but I’m sure the gesture will be appreciated. She was such a sweet person. Read the rest of this entry »

Happy 2/3 Birthday!

under-the-table-where-else.jpgBaby Chase is 8 months old today! Can you believe it? Next thing you know I’ll be posting pictures from her first birthday. We didn’t do much today. Just a short trip to the grocery store and a trip to the dog park with daddy (and the dogs). For the last couple of days she’s not been sleeping well. I can’t tell if it’s her teeth or a developmental thing she wants to get out of the way but I tried giving her some tylenol before putting her down tonight and we have seen some improvement so maybe that was it. It’s so hard to say with that whole not talking thing.

I took some pictures today. For some reason she loves to be under the table and most scooting expeditions end there. Luckily for her she’s just short enough to fit under when she bends forward and comes up again.

I have no class tomorrow. I got an email saying that my prof had sustained some kind of injury. I’m trying not to let elation take over. I’m trying to be a good human being and feel concern and empathy for this woman. It’s hard… Read the rest of this entry »

The Guacamole Garden

jalapenos.jpgSome people have cottage gardens, some people have cutting gardens, perennial gardens or just general vegetable gardens. Ben and I on the other hand have a guacamole garden. We are very happy to never be without tomatoes or jalapenos. Admittedly we also have eggplant and cucumber but the latter gets much less attention than the former. I love how easy jalapenos are to grow. Read the rest of this entry »
