Up to now, Ben’s had the run of the basement and my desk was upstairs. First it was in the dining room, then it migrated to the living room. Having the run of the basement wasn’t much to brag about. The fact that it was dry was about the only thing it had going for it. So we cooked up this crazy scheme. We would finish the basement and turn the main area into one big joint office space. Ben worked on it exclusively by himself getting things done here and there when he could which means that the place was in shambles for an eternity. After about a month working in a pit really starts to get to you but her persevered getting the drywall up and spackled. Which brings us to this weekend…
I took care of buying the flooring during the week. That was interesting. Any excursion during which you buy items that require the use of a flatbed cart is bound to be interesting when you’re rollin with baby girl. It wasn’t easy but I got it. So this weekend we really humped it out. I finally rolled up my sleeves and pitched in. Even though I’m woefully under-prepared for class this week, I feel a certain sense of satisfaction that I can have more than two books open on my desk at a time.
Ben assembled all of the furniture. We bought the desk and jazz at Ikea too and it stayed packed in boxes in the dining room that was the staging area for all this time. I’ll tell ya, I don’t know if I can go back to the Ikea way when I’ve seen how it could be. Where the truck comes to the door and brings the furniture AND takes away the boxes so that you’re not left with a heap of cardboard that’s taller than you. It’s very comfy down here now. Everyone thought I was crazy to buy a huge rug and just keep it here sitting. Mind you I don’t hear any complaints now. It’s not done it’s just usable. We still need to put up the baseboards and stuff like that but it’s a whole hell of a lot better than it was I tell ya. You can see how much better it is just compared to yesterday.
Not much else is going on around here. I tried a recipe yesterday that was less than stellar so I won’t bother to write about it. Although the picture does look quite good. Chase has a bit of a stuffy nose but is no worse for the wear. She woke up yesterday and started pointing. Now everything is point point point. She points at her pictures and at the dogs you name it. It’s pretty funny.
