How come babies and pets only get sick at night and on weekends? I have a serious sneaking suspicion that Chase has an ear infection. Then again I don’t know. I know it’s better safe than sorry but she went to bed tonight no problem and I haven’t heard a peep from her since. My decision was if she couldn’t sleep then off to nighttime pediatrics we would go but she’s been fine so maybe it’s just teething. Why can’t she just tell me what’s bothering her. Meanwhile, teenie is sitting on the couch all glassy eyed with her tongue hanging out and my throat is scratchy and to boot Ben is complaining that his neck is stiff. I’m just going to run some yellow tape around the house and post a big sign you know of a face with X’s for eyes and its tongue sticking out. Continue

I finally got my next two disks in from Netflix. I feel like I should pace myself better this time but we’ve already watched the first two episodes of season two of the Sopranos. I should make Ben give me some of his picks since he’s watching with me even though he swore he wouldn’t. Who can resist? Especially now with the current state of affairs on television, oy! It’s bad. If they’re still striking once I’m done with the Sopranos I’m going to work my way through the wire.

I was wrong about public works. They came back and as promised left a giant gaping hole in the ground in front of our house that we’re now calling a ‘garden.’ Since it was spur of the moment we’re now scrambling to figure out how to build it up and what to plant in it. Ben wants to put a tree in which isn’t a bad idea but what do we know about tree planting? Yet more research to be done. The new hole is probably triple the size of the old one and even though our ‘acreage’ is the size of a postage stamp, the idea of filling the space is daunting nonetheless. Continue

Chase donned one of her new outfits today. She was all cozy in her warm purple cardi. It poured rain here today which put a damper on the city public works crew’s progress on the sidewalk which includes breaking out concrete for a front garden. I’m just guessing here but it will probably rain tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after so that by the time they get to it there will be just enough time for a deep, deep freeze and it will finally be too late to put in any bulbs. Does that sound about right?

I never did tell you about Chase’ new boots. It’s too bad that they’re so big. I have no problem holding on to them until the time is right but it was so rainy today she was just itching to get her feet into them. The only question is where can I get some vintage smurf?

The MD bar application requires that you have your undergraduate school certify that you graduated and that there’s nothing untoward in your record. I filled out the required form and sent it off with a self-addressed stamped envelope for it to be returned. It came back today… with the school seal and all so it’s official BUT it looks like a 6 year old filled it out. Continue

Ho, ho, ho! Christmas has come and gone. In spite of all the running we have done over the last couple of days things were pretty low key over here for the holidays. Chase loved her presents and although it seemed like there were only a few puny packages under the tree it takes a long time for a one-year old to open packages.

After opening presents we packed up and drove to Philadelphia to have dinner with Ben’s fam. Chase had a blast with her cousins. I’m always surprised at how kids interact with one another. Continue

Yesterday we took Chase to see the light show at Macy’s (formerly Hecht’s that was formerly Strawbridges that was formerly Lord and Taylor that was formerly Wannamakers… did I miss any) in Philadelphia. The place was a madhouse, just packed to the gills with kids shoulder to shoulder like sardines. Unfortunately the picture is blurry, there just wasn’t any room to get a shot. She was so thrilled by the lights and music it was great. We’ll probably try to make it a yearly tradition. Maybe next year if I’m good the trip will include a ritzy hotel room for a night. We got all dressed up today and went to the mall to see santa. We waited in a not too long line and Chase was really excited laughing and pointing and smiling and waving.. and then we got right up to santa and she got a death grip on Ben’s sweater. She never even cried because she refused to have anything to do with the fat-man or his knees. So I sat with santa and Chase sat with me. There’s always next year right? Although I have to say that there were plenty of older kids that sat on their moms laps instead of Santa’s so maybe some kids just aren’t cut out for it?Anyway you can have a look-see.  Michelle, she’s wearing her new barrettes:

All the machine sewing is done. I flipped it right-side out and all I have left is to slipsticth the opening shut and tie the layers.. It turned out better than I’d even dared to hope. I followed this tutorial for how-to instructions on this lovely and easy quilt. Chase may not ‘love’ it but I think she’ll love it and use it and get all snuggly with it. If not, I will but my sister will probably want to wrestle me for it. Continue

Who’s getting into the Christmas spirit? Chase is! Who wants to waste time with naps and such when there are ornaments to be pulled off the tree?

I got a great idea for using the vintage-y picnic hampers that I bought, moved, never used, and have been storing in my basement. I knew I would find a purpose! I got the idea from another blogger and filed it away for the moment that the storage space was neat enough to reach the baskets. I also put up some decorative plates. I was s-m-a-r-t and put them high enough to be out of Chase’s reach since they’re positioned over her seat.

I’m anxious to get the top of Chase’s blanket finished so I’m going to cut this short. I’ve got two of the 8 rows together. Continue

I did all the piecing and laid out all the pieces to see how they would look together. Taking a picture is a great idea not only because it will help me to remember my layout but also because I didn’t notice until I looked at the picture that I had two of the same solid blocks side by side which is a problem that is now fixed.

I have wisely put is aside for the evening because this is the time of night when I make the most mistakes, sew through fingers, break needles and the like. I’ll finish putting it together over the next couple of days I think. I hope it comes together as nicely and easily as it seems to be going but with first time projects you just never really know what lies ahead. I know that no one year old wants a blanket for their birthday but if I get it done that’s exactly what Chase will get. She’s already getting tons of fun stuff for Christmas anyway.

We spent some time at the mall today and I found the cutest shirt for Chase to wear to her birthday party. I am Chase is really excited about the party.
