Baltimore Babies Love to Beatbox

I guess the fascination all started with the sandwich-board sign propped up on someone’s lawn reading ‘beatbox lessons $1′. It appears to be another endearing eccentricity of our fair city. This isn’t her typical dancing, the dancing I’ve been trying to catch on video for a week. This is totally new to us, see if you dig her new moves. I think maybe that other dancing is for Christmas music and other adult alternative easy listening garbage. This dancing, this my friends, is evidently uniquely reserved for daddy’s beatboxing.

Curried Winter Vegetable Soup

curried-winter-veg.JPG I got a new toy today! No, I didn’t order it from HSN but that’s the only picture of it I could find online. I had to give it a whirl so I made a batch of yummy soup from the farmer’s market veg we bought this morning. We’re supposed to get snow and it’s crazy cold here. I know because by the time we got home from out errands I was chilled to the bone. This was just what we needed to warm up. I was reading about soup earlier this week and it was just the ticket. Free As a Bird Now

free-as-a-bird-now.jpgOh, man and does it ever feel good! On top of that, tell me you don’t find this a string of events a little odd. When I got home, Ben had taken Chase to visit a friend so I had the house all to myself, the new issue of Living was in the mailbox and Martha Stewart Crafts was just starting. On top of that, the Golden Girls came on right after that and it was the ‘gawd, I wish I was dead’ episode with Dr. Jonathan Newman. I put on my soybu pyjamas and said aaaaahhh. Cracker Jacks

Clapping for MyselfI know I’ve already mentioned this and I don’t want to sound like a broken record BUT I can’t get enough of Martha Stewart’s craft show. I’m starting to look forward to our special half hour everyday. She is absolutely charming just the way I remember her. None of this middle america studio audience nonsense to get in the way of our one on one crafting time.

I splurged and bought this for Chase maybe for Christmas. Maybe I’ll put it in her stocking. Why? Because I have this and if I could get away with it I’d dress us in matching Read the rest of this entry »

Three Down

1211.JPGOne to go. I really feel like I should be wrapping this up tonight. I would be you know, but I had to defer one of my exams and the next available date wasn’t until Friday. It’s not like I’m ready for it anyway as I still haven’t even cracked a book or opened my notes from that class. I am so looking forward to putting this semester behind me. Now only that one last exam, that old paper that I have to complete and the bar application loom ahead. Wow, that still sounds scary but I guess it’s not too shabby compared to what was on the list a week ago.

Not much is going on around here. We lowered Chase’s crib down so she wouldn’t fall out as she keeps up the whole trying to stand and walk thing. She’s just very much moving at her own pace. She stands when she feels like it and refuses to sit when she doesn’t want to. She also refuses to nap when she doesn’t want to but that’s another story. My mind is almost completely fired so instead of pretending like I have something to say that will come across intelligibl I shall resort to simply posting some photos. Read the rest of this entry »

Blondies

blondies.jpgI’ve made these for two parties this year and they’re always well received. They’re the perfect thing to have on deck because they require no special ingredients and can be thrown together at a moment’s notice. I used mini chips and chopped pecans both times I made them.

I’m just going to post the link to the original recipe from Everyday Food. It’s baking so aside from the chips/nuts substitution I stay away from tweaking it.

I think this is a recipe that was in an early issue of Everyday Food back when I had a subscription. I may even have tried it then but Erin is the one who turned me onto it recently. Probably during one of our many panicked, omg what am I supposed to bring conversations.

Noodle and Vegetable Soup

souptastic.jpgRemember the Kylie Kwong book I mentioned a while back? I think I posted pictures but never got around to posting the recipe. Unfortunately, I returned the book without copying down the stock recipe. Can you believe that? The stock was good but it confirmed my suspicions about why I don’t regularly make homemade stock. I would make this again subbing in store bought. It might not be authentic but it would fit my schedule and since you amend the stock before assembling the soup with more soy and ginger I don’t think my palette is discerning enough to note a difference. The only substitution I made was green for red chiles.

Here’s the recipe: Read the rest of this entry »

I’m Ready For My Close Up

im-ready-for-my-close-up.JPGI don’t think I mentioned it but I did finish out the whole month of November posting every day. It’s both liberating and a little sad to see it go. It’s hard to keep up the motivation to post everyday when things get crazy. My first exam is behind me and I have another tomorrow. Can you believe that? An exam on a Saturday? That’s unheard of. Next thing you know those heathens will be trying to test us on Sundays too.

It took me a minute to warm up but I think I covered everything I needed to. I tried not to freak out, even though I wasn’t sure I’d prepared enough, left the house without leaving enough time for parking contingencies and without remembering to write down my blind grading ID. Everything was fine though. I forgot classes were over so there was plenty of parking and I had lots of time to set up and get a coke from the machine. Of course I ran into my professor at th vending machines. Oh, he says, is the exam today. Um.. yeah. Read the rest of this entry »
