Sunday :: The Big Reveal

library-34921So, here it is!  A brand new look for me.  I like it, don’t you?  It’s going to take me a while to learn my way around here because Ben updated WordPress too but so far so good.  A big thanks to Rachel Stuart for the hard work and patience.  PLUS, the next tab I add up there will hopefully be for my shop!  I’m really excited about that too and relatively confident that I’m overextending myself but I’ll give it a shot.

Tea Lattes

Yeah, not so much.  It’s just tea with milk.   Sure, it looks nice when it comes to you in a cup looking deliciously foamy but honestly tea is not transformed the same way coffee is by infusing it with steamed milk.  It just isn’t.  I say this because in spite of the fact that the tea latte I had with my lunch was good and very pretty, I only asked for milk with my tea which is how I usually take it and doesn’t ordinarily cost $3.50.  3.50?  For tea?  Seriously?   It doesn’t matter though because the BLT I ordered was so delicious that they could have charged me $10 for the tea and I wouldn’t have cared.  I wanted to take a picture to share with you but I couldn’t.  What made the sandwich so special was the cheese.  I know, cheese on a BLT, sacrilege  BUT it was so good because it was shaved parm.  It had all the salty deliciousness of cheese that complimented the tomato and bacon just so but with none of the texture of soft cheese that wouldn’t have been right at all.  It was so good.  I want another one just thinking about it.  I was in Frederick for the afternoon for court so I treated myself to lunch for having to make the drive out there and stopped in to this place.  Hopefully they send me back out that way again soon so I can try something else from the menu.

Actually, I’ve been all over the state recently and have tried a couple of new places.  I ate at a place in Cumberland that I really wanted to write about but decided not to.  I really wanted to like it, I really did.  The staff was great, the atmosphere was great, the coffee was good, but my chicken caesar wrap?  Only so-so.  Honestly, they should be able to make a better chicken caesar wrap than xando.  Maybe I ordered the wrong thing though.  I tend to do that pretty frequently.

Last week I had lunch with Ben at a new place down the street.  They got write-ups in the City Paper and the Sun recently and it looks cute from the street so we decided to give it a try.  Service was sloooow but we knew that going in.  We’ll be back, lunch was good and the place has a great vibe.  It’s a great neighborhood spot.  We had dinner at the Dizz not too long ago over in Remington on our neighbor’s recommendation.  A good spot for the fam to grab burgers (and they have a de-licious wheat beer on tap).

I do still cook I swear.  But this weather.  I only want to be outside not in the kitchen.  I feel a tiny bit guilty because it’s been a while since we’ve been to Donna’s and we ran into Chef Andy at spaghetti disco.  We’ll be back though because I see they’re running a new special 3 course dinner for two for $35.00 INCLUDING tax and tip.  Not bad.  Where do you like to nosh?

Sunday

What I left out: a cookout, numerous shopping bags, fries and cokes at the mall, sneakers with lights, and a really good pasta dish.  I hope spring is here to stay.

Alphabets

After much deliberating and consultation with others I decided to skew the letters a little.  It’s much cuter and looks more fun now that the letters aren’t in such straight rows.  I haven’t taken and more pictures and probably won’t.  My mind is already onto the next task.  Ben finally broke down the crib so we could get it out of the room and now there’s a big naked spot where it used to be.

Meanwhile, I never posted this video that I took the day I put the letters up.  I posted it on Facebook though so you may have already seen it there.

Alphabet Frieze

I’ve been working on this for over a year.  That is, from the time I dreamed this idea up until I put them up on the wall today, many many months have passed.  I’m pretty sure it was after Chase was born but she may or may not have been able to sit unassisted when I first started out.

I’m happy to have come this far.  It still needs some tweaking.  I have to adjust the positioning of the letters a little but am generally satisfied with the spacing.  Chase is really excited about it and I’m happy to have come up with a design feature for her room that she’s really into and thinks is the bees knees.

I took a bunch of pictures from the same angle… I tried and tried to get the whole thing in the picture but it’s damn near impossible.  I also put in the bedside table today (hooray for snow days!)  It’s another thrift store find.  I put a new coat of paint on it.  I love the candlestick legs, it’s very cute.  Chase picked that alarm clock out at IKEA.  I have absolutely no idea how to work it.  In the pictures you can see how I took my very technical measurements.  More tomorrow.
