It’s not clear whether it’s spring or summer. It was so hot today that it definitely felt like summer but there are still no mosquitos so I guess it’s spring. The weekend, as always, was fun but too short. I have a full week at work ahead of me and as soon as the sun set today my mind became unable to relax and focus on anything else.
Yesterday we had a nice cookout with our neighbors which is alternately referred to by different people as impromptu bbq or stone soup cookout. The kind that comes together with whatever you’ve got around (plus chicken wings if you can convince your husband to go out and get them for you). When the meat was off the grill Ben put on some pineapple spears. I think that’s going to be my go to summer dessert grilled pineapple and ice cream or sorbet. I’d forgotten how much I like raspberry sorbet. It’s delicious. Oh, and molten chocolate cake but only if somebody else makes it for me. Read the rest of this entry »

I know it’s Monday, but this post is about Sunday so I’m counting it. I’m kind of ashamed to admit that I didn’t post yesterday because I was caught up in watching The Da Vinci Code. That was the movie I used to wean myself off of watching Friday Night Lights. Having Netflix on demand is awesome and ridiculous because there is absolutely nothing standing between me and endless seasons of the shows I want to see.

You know my old refrain about dinner. How it has to be made and eaten every. single. night. I made this tonight though and I know I’m going to come back to it throughout the summer. It was almost too easy for how tasty it was. It wasn’t tasty like mind-blowing delicious but it was simple and flavorful. Simple and flavorful like real comfort food… what you want at the end of the day when you don’t feel like cooking but you just can’t stomach the idea of restaurant food either. You’ve already seen most of the pictures, but here I am to tell the story! Considering that we’re not practicing any sort of formalized religion, Easter’s not a huge, big deal kind of a holiday here. I was struggling just to imagine it right up until the very last minute. We ended up spending the night with Ben’s sister. The kids got a chance to play and then found their baskets in the morning and sat around gorging themselves on chocolate and jelly beans. We slept in a loft type area that looked down on a great room. Chase got out of bed and hung around up there for a few minutes before looking down to the room below and exclaiming, my basket, my basket! There’s something in my basket! It was very cute, she was so excited about it. So for all of my worrying, I forgot the beanbags at home and Chase ate plenty of jelly beans. Oh well, what can you do? Anyway, I’m so glad we decided not to stay home because Chase really had a lot of fun. Read the rest of this entry »

Is that blasphemous? I didn’t mean it to be. I just like the double meaning. Because it will indeed be a good Friday. Actually, I didn’t even realize it was Good Friday until just a little while ago. My boss asked me if I was coming in tomorrow which makes me think that our office must not be closed. But when my day off falls on what would otherwise be a holiday it’s a lot less satisfying in some ways. I’m trying not to dwell on it. I need to be home anyway because I’m hoping that taking it easy will help me get over this plague that I’m suffering from. I am definitely on the mend even though I sound like hell. The flu-like body aches, fever and chills, makes me feel crazy illness, morphed into a hellish sore throat which has finally limited itself to a stuffy nose and hoarse voice but I can deal with this. 1. I’m loving that we can now watch Netflix on demand on our tv, cause there’s never anything on. I’m gonna test it out tomorrow.
2. Working on some easter themed bean bags for Chase’s easter basket because how much chocolate can the little one eat?
3. Secretly very excited to give her the foil wrapped bunny that she asked for.
4. Happy that I’m feeling a little better but not looking forward to lying beside the coughing boy wonder all night long
5. Thrilled to have finally settled on a recipe for roast chicken that’s easy enough to not require a recipe AND delicious.

Chase got a t-ball set and a few other toys for the yard. I think it’s a toss-up between baseball and bowling fun-wise, but you can hit the ball farther in baseball which leads to a chorus of me get it, me get it! We also made our own bubble solution with dish detergent and Karo syrup. It’s supposed to make the bubbles bouncy and easy to blow the way commercial bubble solutions are. BUT, I doubled the recipe and, if I try it again, I won’t double the amount of Karo because the result was pretty goopy. It’s also hard to teach proper bubble blowing technique when the soap is sort of sweet. Poor planning on my part. It did make pretty good bubbles though. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m working on something new and purple for a very special little girl. It’s still a work in progress so until it’s done only a tiny look. I think I might try out some other ideas for customizing on this one. We’ll see where this one takes me. I feel like I spent a lot of time working on it tonight but I think that’s because I’m moving so slowly. I am so, so looking forward to the weekend getting here. Of course, the busiest day of my week promises to be Friday so I am feeling somewhat torn even about that. Anyway, this will be short and sweet… just checking in.
