Mission Accomplished :: Pajama Party Sew-Along

library-8234I totally did it!  The nightie is complete but I don’t know why I bothered.  It was a lot harder than this easy pattern should have been.  I used McCalls 4505 and used view A for the simple slip.  It wasn’t difficult for any fault of the pattern and it wasn’t even because I’m not feeling 100% or tired.  I actually really liked the pattern and will definitely use it again.  It was purely a result of fabric selection.  I know now that I NEED Sandra Betzina’s book Fabric Savvy I can’t afford to keep taking it out of the library. And The Winners Are…

Erin and Shell.  Look for them in the mail soon.  Thanks everyone for your interest.  I wish I had one for each of you!  Lora, Georgia and Nova I hope you stick around.  With my first every giveaway out of the way I’m planning another one for next week.  A crown this time.  By next week I hope to be feeling much better and ready to go hopefully the creativity will be flowing again.  And this time I’ll use a random number generator so hopefully no tears.

Meanwhile, I went to bed last night at 6pm so I didn’t do any cutting on my pj project for the sew-along.  I feel marginally better tonight but I don’t want to push it.  It may just not be in the cards.

De-Stashing Giveaway!!

library-8227It is with great excitement, and some shame, that I bring this to you.  I realize it’s kind of late in the game to get the ball rolling on the pyjama party sew-along but anytime is a good time for pyjamas really.  Which is probably partly why I have not one, not two, but three copies of Simplicity pattern number 2900.  It’s a reissue of a vintage pattern from 1952 for a layette.  The reason that i have three is also probably partly because I am partial to slip like things as nighties but I think I’ll be ok with just the one pattern.  So the other two are all you!   Read the rest of this entry »

This Weekend

library-8220As of Friday I was unsure but the verdict is in.  Best 5 day weekend ever.  I feel like I had enough energy to get some projects done AND enjoy doing them.  I managed to put some pickles up.  These babies probably cost more than it would to buy them considering the first 7 pounds of cukes I had didn’t make it.  These came home from the market yesterday and were safely in their jars within 24 hours.  That’s my window if they sit in the fridge any longer than that they’re goners. Sweet Jumper :: New Look 0557

library-8181I bought this pattern after seeing it put together on a display at the fabric store.  It’s a simple and sweet jumper, nothing too fancy but there’s something really special about it.  It has a little bit of a vintage feel to it.  I think it has something to do with the length.  I love it, I think it’s super sweet and I’m going to make another one tonight… or tomorrow with owls! Happy Friday

library-8166I love Fridays.  I love Fridays ahead of long weekends especially.  I’m going to try to make the most of this one.  We’ll see how it goes.  I don’t have anything specific planned for the weekend so it’s kind of a toss up as to how it will turn out.  We always seem to manage to come up with something to do.  Like today, we managed to squeeze a little fun out of our errands.  We picked these pumpkins out at Safeway and Chase arranged them just so for the coffee table.   Read the rest of this entry »

Taking It Easy

library-8137Aside from a quick appearance in court this morning that’s what we did today.  I hope that taking it kind of slow today will keep the sickness at bay.  I definitely feel better today than I did yesterday.  The sore throat doesn’t seem to be threatening anymore and C seems to be in good shape too.  No sense in getting worn out at school as she does at the end of the week or being exposed to unnecessary germs.   Read the rest of this entry »

Fake It Don’t Make It Stuffed Shells

library-81231I can’t explain what the box of giant shells was doing in the cupboard.  At some point I must have thought that stuffed shells were a good idea but I can’t imagine why.  So after looking at them for several months I pulled them down.  Great.  Except I didn’t have any ricotta cheese.  That probably would have deterred a smarter person but I pressed forward convinced that I could make it work. A Half Bushel of Apples

2009-2717It’s the biggest basket you can buy at the market.  I’m holding off on apple picking until a little later in the season when some of my favs will be ripe.  For now, I’m working my way through a big ol’ sack of jonathans from this week’s market.  So far I’ve cranked out a giant vat of apple sauce for the freezer and an apple crisp.  I have two crusts in the fridge ready for hand pies tomorrow.  I think I’ll make another recipe for a 2 crust pie and use it to make two Read the rest of this entry »

Check It Out :: Sew Sweet Pepita

library-7813My super crazy talented friend and creator of Sweet Pepita clothing Shannon announced yesterday that her new line of Sew Sweet Pepita patterns are in stock in her shop right now!  I was lucky enough to test this pattern and get a sneak peak at the goods.  So stinkin’ cute.  So cute that I squeezed my more like 24 to 36 month sized baby into a 6 to 12 month sized shirt just to see how cute it really was.   Read the rest of this entry »
