I think I took pictures weekly with Chase. I think the last picture I took this time was 6 weeks ago. I’m pretty freaked out about how quickly this pregnancy is going. 26 weeks! This week marks the end of my second trimester. There’s like no time and we haven’t even thought about paint yet. The whole room is in shambles and nowhere near being ready for me to even think about doing anything with it. I wish I had a stronger urge to nest then I could really whip this place into shape in general. Read the rest of this entry »

This idea kind of came to me last night. Why not a mask? Would Chase like a mask? She really liked the one that she got from the farmer’s market. So I made up a little pattern and cut it out of some felt scraps. So I’m trying to figure out whether or not this is something worth investigating a little further. What if I had some feathers or sequins or something like that? What if the mask had ears and whiskers? I think I’m going to play around with this idea for a little while longer. Beads are a favored activity at our house. We started with preschool type chunky wooden lacing beads by Melissa and Doug. They’re great wooden beads that are easy to manipulate but became too easy in short order. Then we moved on to another Melissa and Doug kit that resulted in a number of pictures of teenie looking rather pathetic. But after a while, we lost interest in those beads too. So I started thinking. Read the rest of this entry »

I took this picture of Chase today wearing her new pants. It’s not the first day of school but I was still excited that it was cool enough this morning, and would stay cool enough all day, for her to wear the new cords I made her to school. Excited as I was I didn’t remember to take a picture of her this morning. So I got a picture tonight… after she was exhausted and totally engrossed in d-d-d-dora. I have a real love hate relationship with Dora. The songs are so catchy. Just catchy enough to get stuck in my head for hours.
However, to look on the bright side, she came home in the pants she went to school in which means look ma, no accidents! She also does seem to really like her new pants and particularly the hearts on the knee patches. Hopefully they won’t be the only pair I get done this winter and I have to get moving on the two jumpers I have ideas for.
See how she doesn’t even look at the camera any more when I take pictures? She halfheartedly says cheese. I think things may have gone horribly awry here considering that she also finds it perfectly normal to ask me to take a picture of her toasted cheese.
Back to work for me.

This is the last weekend for the State Fair. You must go! We had so much fun. We all did… I think. How could you not? Chase didn’t want to help me milk a cow or pet a calf but she did pet one of these tiny pink piglets. They suckled like crazy. Mama just lay there, sound asleep with her tongue hanging out of her mouth. In some ways I Read the rest of this entry »

So I still don’t really know what direction this will take but I’m trying something new. I feel so inspired after last week’s felt crowns that I’ve developed a pattern of my own. I love it. I spent some time poking around on the internet looking at other styles of actual crowns and developed a pattern all my own. Or two or three. I have a few more tricks up my sleeve but I need supplies. I am so over acrylic felt. Too bad I have plenty of that. My pinking shears just won’t cut it.

This meal filled my need for something hot, cheesy and satisfying out of the oven. I didn’t follow the recipe to the letter because I had leftover cooked chicken. So, instead of browning the chicken and nestling it in on top I just stirred the cooked cubed chicken in with the rice in the final step. I also omitted the mushrooms and used extra stock in place of the sherry. I guess I used the technique for the creamy baked rice more than Read the rest of this entry »
