I first read about this book over at Angry Chicken. So when I saw Rustic Fruit Desserts at the library I checked it out. Fruit desserts are definitely my thing. Ben’s a chocolate man and so we have some very fundamental differences of opinion when it comes to dessert. But I say the person who bakes get to choose so fruit desserts it is even if I do have to eat them all myself (poor me). It’s all in the timing because I couldn’t use a fruit dessert book more than right now with hundreds of apples sitting in the kitchen.
I tried the recipe for gingered pear raspberry pandowdy. I have to freely admit that I have serious problems following a recipe. I used apples instead of pears and the last of the raspberries that we picked last weekend. I couldn’t find the crystallized ginger so I mixed some ground ginger in with the dry ingredients for the topping. Oh, and I used the wrong kind of pan. But other than that, I followed the recipe to a t. I did happen to have buttermilk, that counts for something right?
This is so good. That’s all I can say, it’s just so good. You can find he recipe here. Try it, you’ll like it. There are a bunch of recipes in the book that I’m marking to try. I’m glad that I’ll have made at least one though so that when I return the book with a $6.00 fine it won’t be for nothing. There was a bounty of new books at the library. I brought home way more than my fair share. I can’t be reasonable with books.
We’re gearing up for the pre-trick or treating party that we’re having. I did a little more work on our spooky garland. Here’s a little peak. Meanwhile I think I’m just going to go for it and start putting up decorations. I was going to wait until just before the party but I’m having trouble resisting the rubber frogs and spiders. This is probably a bad idea.
