Getting Cold, Getting Spooky

library-2336It’s c-c-cold here!  Cold and soggy.  I still haven’t turned the heat on though.  I’m holding out just one more day at least.  I’ve fallen in love with our gas and electric bill from the last couple of months and I’m not quite ready to let it go yet.  I’m not in complete denial about the weather though so when Chase asked to make ginger bread boys I thought, why not?   Read the rest of this entry »

It’s All In The Timing

library-2317I first read about this book over at Angry Chicken.  So when I saw Rustic Fruit Desserts at the library I checked it out.  Fruit desserts are definitely my thing.  Ben’s a chocolate man and so we have some very fundamental differences of opinion when it comes to dessert.  But I say the person who bakes get to choose so fruit desserts it is even if I do have to eat them all myself (poor me).  It’s all in the timing because I couldn’t use a fruit dessert book more than right now with hundreds of apples sitting in the kitchen.   Read the rest of this entry »

Great Crown Giveaway!

library-83551It’s time!  Here’s how it works.  All you have to do is check out my shop (use the tab at the top of the page) and leave me a comment here to tell me which crown you’d like to win (the ones pictured right will be in there shortly).  Then, next week on Tuesday I’ll announce the winner.  The deadline to comment will be midnight Tuesday (i.e. midnight between Monday night and Tuesday morning).  What’s the catch?  The only thing that you have to do is put a link to this post on your blog.  If you don’t have a blog you can post the link on Facebook or Twitter.  If you don’t use either of those, lean over and tell the person in the next cubicle.  Honor system, k?  I’ll use a random number generator to choose a winner.  One entry per person please.  If you win, you can choose any crown from the shop and I’ll ship it to you… for free!  Yay!

Happy Monday

If we’re friends on Facebook you’ve already seen this, but it’s cute you don’t mind watching it again right?  Now you know what her favorite part of the trip was.  Mine was listening to her scream at the wind while peeing in the woods.  I won’t forget that any time soon.

Apples + Hopscotch + Pumpkins

library-8385library-8406library-8378

About sumarizes the weekend.  The weather was so crappy yesterday that we stayed in our pyjamas until lunch time but today we hit the ground running bright and early.  We drove out to Lariland Farm in Howard County.  I was underwhelmed by the farm itself but it appears to be the only place still doing pick your own apples AND they still have raspberries.   Read the rest of this entry »

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

library-8363

But before we get to that fun project I thought you might enjoy a sneak peak at the crowns I put together this week.  This is a shot of just one of the four (FOUR!) I made this week.  Two will go in the shop, one’s being donated for a fund raiser and one, dear friends, is for you!  I just have to sort out which ones are which.   Read the rest of this entry »

The Last Warm Days

library-8312I used to be skeptical of our corner store.  I’d never been inside.  But I’ve decided to embrace it because sometimes you need a little incentive to make it the last 2 blocks back from the park.  And by a little incentive I mean a giant multicolored popsicle that stains your hands and face a crazy shade or red-orange.   Read the rest of this entry »

How A Pan Saved the Day

library-83091I can’t believe I haven’t written about this griddle yet.  I must have.  We bought this griddle pan three or four months ago.  At the time, I worried about whether I should by this one or the Calphalon equivalent but decided on this one because it’s reversible.  If we had gone with the Calphalon we’d have been stuck with the griddle only, though I do believe it’s a little bit bigger.   Read the rest of this entry »

Crisis Imminent

library-8304My existential crisis that is.  That heap of tulle partly represents a Halloween garland I’ve been working on and partly what my brain feels like at the moment only a little more organized.  The tulle is more organized than my brain that is.  I was really productive today and I thought I might get this done too but I’m putting it aside from now and watching an old movie on tv because I think my brain just needs  a little break. Baby Doll Cloth Diaper Tutorial

library-8295Part of my plan for Christmas/birthday/new baby season is a new set of gear for C’s baby.  Actually, she has asked for a brand new baby with eyes that close.  That’s part of the plan too.  But this is scrap buster month over as Sew, Mama, Sew which got me thinking.  I made a couple of diapers a while back but nothing too fancy and got to thinking about how to make them better.  As a result, I barely slept last night but I did come up with an idea.   Read the rest of this entry »
