I’m A Big Girl Now

library-4161In more ways than one.  You know what?  I don’t feel any different being on this side of 30.  Of course, there just wasn’t any time to worry about it.  Meanwhile, I’ve started blowing up like the stay puff marshmallow man.  I’ve gained 7 lbs in the last two weeks.  My hands, feet and face are starting to swell and my blood pressure is creeping up.  I went in for a routine ob appointment today and ended up spending the whole afternoon at labor and delivery being monitored until my blood pressure stabilized.  I have to go back now twice a week for additional follow up.  That’s way more time than I want to spend at the hospital during my last two weeks.  It kind of stinks but I’m glad that everything with baby girl looks good.

Happy Sandwich

library-348Erin met me in Frederick on the Sunday smack in the middle of our birthdays to celebrate.  As if that in and of itself isn’t enough we made ourselves reservations at Volt in a completely shameless act of teenage, starstruck admiration.  I can admit it.  If B. V. wasn’t so cute we so wouldn’t have bothered and that’s just the simple truth. Read the rest of this entry »

library-338We’re all trying to do a little.  We went out briefly this morning for a parent-teacher conference and that was it.  We stayed in.  I tried to think of a reason to go out.  I almost succeeded too but in the end I couldn’t come up with anything that I could really justify.  So we stayed in… and played.  With actual toys.   Read the rest of this entry »

library-335WIP’s or works in progress are way better than UFO’s or unfinished objects.  And right now I’m working on two.  This little guy is the first two and a half inches of one of these.  They seem to be coming together pretty quickly but I haven’t worked on them for the last two days because I’ve been too busy feeling sorry for myself and watching tv. One Pot Cincinnati Chili

library-3281I can decisively say that this is my favorite chili.  I like Jamie’s recipe for chili con carne, Martha’s recipe for turkey chili and the slow cooker white chicken chili from Cooking Light.  But Cincinnati chili is definitely my favorite.

This version is a one skillet dish from the Cook’s Illustrated Cover and Bake cookbook.  The spaghetti for chili mac really shouldn’t be mixed in like this nor should the beans but in this recipe the macaroni cooks right in the sauce, one pot!  Oh, and the beans?  Made in the crockpot.  I cooked them all day and they got nice and soft.  Easy.  I put half in the chili and half in the freezer. Check It Out :: Mallow Munchies

library-322Amazingly I remembered to take a picture before I ripped the package open and completely devoured the contents.  Doesn’t it seem like I’m always apologizing for pictures taken after the fact?   Sorry, I almost ate all of this before I took a picture but, after all, it was delicious.  But I digress.  Ben pointed out this stand to me this morning knowing I have a weakness for rice crispy treats.  A weakness so great in fact that I will resort to eating the ones in the blue foil.  I have however thus far managed not to buy a super-sized box of them at Costco and now I won’t ever have to. Ben’s Beanie

library-311It’s done!  So I ask him to put it on so I can take a picture.  And this is what I get.  You make a simple request like ‘look normal’ and this is what you get.  But if you’re really clever, like I am, you will pretend that you’re done and then suddenly and shockingly insist that your subject just, ahem… farted.   Read the rest of this entry »

Franks and Beans!

library-300library-299I have a lot of things to share with you today friends.  Like this dress I picked up yesterday at Target.  I always peruse the clearance rack you know, just in case.  I LOVE this dress.  I really want to copy the design with some fabric I have in my stash.  I just love it, it’s soft and flowy and it’s fully lined.  Did I mention that it was on clearance for 6 bucks?!  It would have cost me more to buy a pattern and fabric.  Excellent deal.  The sleeves are kind of longish for short sleeves but it is November so she wore her poncho over top.  She loves that thing. Hitting the Books

library-288I spent hours on the road today for a less than 10 minute proceeding.  Add in lunch and by the time I got into the office for the first time this week it was nearly two.  Then there’s the weekend that everyone needs to tell you about, 10 people who quickly need to ‘pick your brain,’ and the realization that you only have two minutes to hurl all of the questions you need answered at your boss before you miss your window.  After all of that, you get to look at the stack of files on your chair because otherwise you won’t be able to sit.

I’m not complaining, believe me, it’s a sweet deal but it’s always a little scary on the first day back after being out for a couple.  Everyone NEEDS to talk to you right away.  Everything becomes urgent.  The best part is that my calendar is totally clear for the rest of the week.  The worst part?  We’re closed tomorrow.  I never thought I’d hear myself say that a day off was Read the rest of this entry »
