I spent hours on the road today for a less than 10 minute proceeding. Add in lunch and by the time I got into the office for the first time this week it was nearly two. Then there’s the weekend that everyone needs to tell you about, 10 people who quickly need to ‘pick your brain,’ and the realization that you only have two minutes to hurl all of the questions you need answered at your boss before you miss your window. After all of that, you get to look at the stack of files on your chair because otherwise you won’t be able to sit.
I’m not complaining, believe me, it’s a sweet deal but it’s always a little scary on the first day back after being out for a couple. Everyone NEEDS to talk to you right away. Everything becomes urgent. The best part is that my calendar is totally clear for the rest of the week. The worst part? We’re closed tomorrow. I never thought I’d hear myself say that a day off was a bad thing but I’ve got stuff to do. That’s how these books ended up following me home. I decided on a compromise the only problem is that working from home, for me, means actual physical books. You know, like with pages instead of stuff I can read on my computer. Weird, but I’ll manage.
Underneath my books and files are a couple of things that we picked up at The Book Thing last weekend including Madeleine Cooks by Madeleine Kamman. Her name stood out to me as someone I should add to my shelves. Particularly for free. It’s here along with about 15 other library books waiting for me to thumb through them. I was so good about the library for a while but here I am back to having an unreasonable number of books out all over again. I’m really going to try this time.
Gotta get to work here. Ben’s hat is almost done!
