There was one thrift store purchase that I forgot to tell you about. I picked up a little spring jacket for myself. It’s not the awesome trench that I wanted but it will do for now. It’s a little jean jacket type number but the beauty of it is that it’s not denim. You know, cause there’s that whole denim jacket problem of trying to wear one with jeans and finding yourself in a funny little denim suit. I also didn’t tell you how I treated myself to a new diaper bag. It’s not the awesome purse that I wanted but it will have to do. I don’t know if I’m liking the trend I’m seeing here. However, I was tired of stuffing diapers into my purse and I do like some of the Liberty merchandise that that cursed store is currently peddling. Judging by the comments, looks like lots of other people had the same idea. It’s just about the right size with lots of pockets. So now I just need somewhere to go with my new bag and jacket that’s a tiny bit farther than the end of the block.
How did you pass the time on this rainy day? This afternoon we watched a movie and then we re-hid the plastic easter eggs. When that got old I tried introducing a simple scavenger hunt. That was actually pretty fun. Thankfully, Chase isn’t a stickler for accurate representations and that made it just a tiny bit more challenging.
We also got down the Grimms’ Fairy Tales book (the same one my mom read to me!) and read Little Red Riding Hood. I left out some of the gun stuff but left in all the eat you up parts and the part where the wolf gets disemboweled to free red and her grandmother. It’s a pretty good story. I guess I could have left the guns in. Chase probably wouldn’t have picked up on it. She did seem to like it and to follow along. I haven’t read her many non picture books so it’s interesting to see her response.
That ate up most of the afternoon. Then I made dinner and Chase destroyed the living room. The risotto was good but didn’t blow my mind AND I still have rice left over which means I’ll have to make risotto at least one more time. It’s wasn’t hard to do (easier that the spanakopita) but I did break a wooden spoon with all the crazy stirring. Chase didn’t eat it so it won’t be added to the short list.
Finally, a little hand knit cute. Buddha baby in her new socks. The socks were a gift and it’s still just cold and rainy enough for them. Life is better with good socks. I made a vow to myself about wool socks three days ago while I was driving. No more microfiber for me. My wool socks are my favorite. They’re the only way to go.
