We borrowed The Three Billy Goats Gruff from the library a few weeks ago. Anybody who’s been at the park with Chase since then knows that trolls and billy goats gets acted out a lot. While I was sitting on the couch last night, pretending that I didn’t need to be in bed, I thought that making little trolls might be a fun rainy day activity.
That little guy there is mine. I made a quick pompom like this but tied it with a pipe cleaner instead of another piece of yarn. The eyes, the mouth and the little bean for the nose are just glued on. Then the whole shebang is glued down on top of the paper feet. Chase wanted her trolls to smile but I suppose they’d be more troll like if they were frowning.
Chase helped me wrap the yarn around my fingers but wasn’t particularly interested in making her own so I let her use this pompom I had hanging around. Then we set to work making a bridge (here it is in its first incarnation… I’m no engineer) and some sweet, tender grass to put on the other side. And of course, there’s the rock for the troll to sit on. To hear Chase tell it, the rock is for reading books, having privacy and using the potty.
It made for a fun afternoon. Would you believe we only have one toy goat in the house? I thought that was pretty good but Chase was appalled. Everyone knows you need to keep three plastic goats around at all times, you know, just in case.
