I Won’t Back Down

The ribs got cooked!  Just as I was about to resign myself to not getting it done… I did!  I decided to wing it.  It was getting late and dinner was drawing near but I decided that there was just enough time for the ribs to cook in a low oven in time to be finished on the grill.  Cap it off with ice cream cones and fun friends and I can’t think of a better way to wrap up the week, success!  So the week went well.  Everything but ‘something with leftover chicken’ got made.  I did have chicken salad once for lunch and have just enough chicken leftover to do it again tomorrow.  And Saturday is market day so I can get some good bread.  Bonus. Derailed

Sooo, we had pizza for dinner.  And not the homemade kind.  The kind that comes in a greasy cardboard box.  I went into the kitchen this morning to get the crock pot down so I could put the ribs on and dropped the lid from on top of the fridge.  It shattered.  It shattered into thousands of tiny shards of glass.  It was such an unbelievable mess.  It doesn’t help that I feel crappy and that it took me a long time this morning to get Avery down for a nap.  I could have fashioned a lid out of something I suppose and I will probably do that tomorrow but in the moment I just couldn’t cope.   Read the rest of this entry »

The Blue Dots Are The Eggs

There was one thrift store purchase that I forgot to tell you about.  I picked up a little spring jacket for myself.  It’s not the awesome trench that I wanted but it will do for now.  It’s a little jean jacket type number but the beauty of it is that it’s not denim.  You know, cause there’s that whole denim jacket problem of trying to wear one with jeans and finding yourself in a funny little denim suit.   Read the rest of this entry »

What’s For Dinner?

Riding high on last week’s success with planning our dinners in advance I’m trying again.  I’m also inspired by Rob‘s good work with Menu Monday.  I spent some time over the weekend puzzling it out and came up with a list of dinners in no particular order and a shopping list of a couple of things to pick up.   Read the rest of this entry »

Big Score

Did you have a nice weekend? I did. I kind of like these crazy busy, no time to sit down weekends in spite of the fact that I got not a speck of cleaning done. Maybe a load of laundry got washed. That’s about it.

Oh, but I did take a nice long nap with Avery Saturday afternoon. So, I guess I did sit down a little. I tend to start feeling resentful when it starts to feel like I never get a break. It’s something I’m trying to work on. It’s something I don’t communicate about very well. So poorly in fact, that even though I start to resent Ben, I also have to acknowledge that it’s really something of my own problem. So we’re both trying to work on it. So I read for a while and then we had a little nap late in the afternoon. That was pretty nice. Read the rest of this entry »

A Yellow Submarine

I worked on this as a surprise for my good friend Erin who’s about halfway to the arrival of a baby boy!  It’s patterned off a simple baby romper.  I’m all about working with knit now that my friend Shannon has managed to mostly dispel me of my fear of it.  It doesn’t ravel what could be better than that?

I wanted to make a little something special with some Beatles flair so I figured out how to do a little reverse applique.  Knit is perfect for this because it won’t fray like other fabrics.  And the project is so small that you just need a little piece of something.  It can be anything, an old tee or a little old onesie.

I did put it on Avery to make sure it was sized properly and whatnot but it’s HARD to take pictures of clothes on a tiny baby.  It’s hard enough to get a shot of her smiling, getting a decent shot of her in this was next to impossible.  I did submit the design idea for publication in the upcoming publication of One Yard Wonders.  Fingers crossed.

I kept this under my hat for so long that I almost forgot to tell you about it.  It’s been shipped and received though so now we all just have to wait another 19 weeks and three months to see it in action.  An eternity!

Saltwaters

I hope the warm weather comes back because Chase is way ready to wear her new shoes.  She cried nearly all afternoon yesterday because her old shoes are dirty.  Never mind that she’s the one that wore them into the ground.  I’m thrilled that we had a day of cool weather so that running shoes were appropriate and we could get out to the store to pick these up without reliving yesterday’s wailing over having to wear the purple shoes.   Read the rest of this entry »

Careful Observation

Step 1

Carefully observe your sister while she talks quite effusively about her drawing while wildly gesticulating with a crayon.

Cannoli Cheesecake

It’s like two crazy delicious desserts got together and had a delicious baby.  Really, it’s a yummy cake.  I made this for dessert at Easter and thought it was terrific.  It has just enough ricotta to lighten the filling but it’s still plenty creamy like a traditional cheesecake.  I didn’t use a commercial ricotta (bought some small batch somewhere) and I didn’t have mini chips, so I chopped up some regular ones but other than that I followed the recipe as written. (You may have to sign in but the recipe is free).
