The Shoes Make the Princess

She never said anything about it but I started to think it might be about the shoes.  I thought she’d be thrilled to have a princess dress to dress up in.  It’s almost always the first thing she runs for when she gets to school.  But at school they also have a pair of “glass” slippers.  So, that’s what we did.  And sure enough AS SOON as she had them she was asking where’s my dress and wanting to wear it!  Phew.  I was getting really worried.  We have no alternates.  Now as soon as I remember the safe place that Avery’s mouse costume is hiding in I’ll be in great shape.  I even decided to dress up as a witch!  I’m pretty sure I got rid of the old cowboy boots, I think Ben’s going to dodge a bullet on this one.

That Terrible Halloween Night Commeth

Everyone, including myself, wants to know when I started caring about Halloween.  I don’t know.  It must have come along with the kids like endless fatigue.  What can I say, we’re having a lot of fun.   Read the rest of this entry »

Many Loaves

After being out of bread for many, many days I decided to do something about it.  I experimented with a recipe for pain de mie a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty good.  Then I came across this recipe somewhere in the blogosphere and decided to try it.   Read the rest of this entry »

(1) IMG_20101024_122456We now have four pumpkins, one for each of us, and just in time.  Last year we opted out of Weber’s but I’m glad we went back.  It’s close, familiar and Chase always has lots of fun.  Who cares if it’s a total racket and part of the hay ride backs onto a sub development?  Ben had to stand on the catwalk and yell NOW at the exact moment that Chase passed by an entrance to the hay maze so that I could tackle her and then gently assist her in exiting.  I mean really.  Between the hay maze and the slide she had A LOT of fun.  Me?  I’m partial to the donuts. It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time

Chase decided to invite her sister to watch a movie with her.  “Just for a minute,” I told her.  Apparently, Chase has NO idea what kind of havoc that a not quite 11 month old baby can wreak in just a minute because she was thrilled to hear that.  To wit: Read the rest of this entry »

A Movin And A Shakin

So she almost never sits down anymore.  There is much standing and much crashing to the floor.  And it seems that she’s moving from standing to cruising in just a matter of days.  It’s really hard to keep up with.  I’m glad that at least most of the crashing is now forwards rather than backwards.  We were pretty tired of seeing her hit the back of her head on stuff but she seems to have found her center when sitting and moved on to bigger and better things. 30 + 3

Layer cakes are impressive but taste is what really matters, right?  It’s a tasty cake.  I know because I had a second piece last night just to make sure.  And it was super easy to make.  One bowl and one pan and I frosted and served it right in there.  Success.  Let the season of birthdays begin!  One down three to go.

Busiest Saturday Ever

Avery was still going strong after dinner while the rest of us had the strong urge to be horizontal wrapped in many layers of something warm.  Maybe that’s because she wasn’t involved in the many rounds of how many kids can fit in a stroller (sit n’ stand… and stand anyone?) or a wagon or under the play equipment that were played today or that she slept the entire time that we were at the park.  We definitely made the most of city living today.  I’m tired but I know that the weekend won’t feel like it was too short.  And have I mentioned how much she loves her sister?   Read the rest of this entry »

Apple Picking

We picked three bags of staymans and a bag of fujis for eating.  And a big bag full of broccoli because it was fun.  So yesterday was goulash today was gumbo and tomorrow broccoli cheddar.  In other words, the soup  pot runneth over and I’m ok with that.  Even soup hating Ben had a second bowl of gumbo.  I’ve never made gumbo before.  The smell of flour “toasting” sure is interesting.  Anyway, happy weekend.  Looking forward to the next one.  Click on for the pictures.
