Halloween :: I Hope Yours Was Happy

It was mostly a blur for me but I hear that the kids had fun.  Today, While Chase was at school, Avery spent most of the day going through her candy bucket and trying to remember what she was supposed to do with a lollipop.  Step 1, get lollipop from sister’s bucket.  Step 2, put lollipop in mouth.  Wait… something’s not right.  You there, lady, open this.

So, we had out little party.  It was fun… I think.  I hardly remember anything.  I had to ask Ben if the kids looked like they were having fun.  We had bats and witches,  bones and blood and hot dog mummies.  Bobbing for apples and belly balloon races.  Just a little bit of candy and a spooky story.

As much fun as it was, everything before trick or treating was VERY hard for Chase.  There was a lot of crying in the morning, by party time it was mostly pouting but by trick or treat time she was ALL smiles.  And slept in until almost 8:30 this morning.  Worn out, we all were, but in a good way.

I used this pattern to make Chase’s dress.  I was worried that it was going to be too challenging for the amount of time that I allotted to it but it went together smoothly in a few days.  The only thing that I took note of was that invisible elastic seemed like the best elastic to use when using tulle as the contrast fabric.  I think running white elastic through both sides of the sleeve wouldn’t have looked so nice.

I made it way too big because I was hoping that she might get a few more miles out of it as a dressup but I don’t know that working with SO much extra fabric was worth it.  We’ll see if I ever get around to letting it out or if she’s lost interest in it by then.  I made her gloves out of a pair of old tights.  I cut the legs off and then cut the toes off of those and then used some hot glue to stick on some colorful jewels.  I’m really happy with how it turned out.  Mostly because she loved it but also because I didn’t buy anything new to make it (shoes aside).  I bought several yards of that crazy shiny fabric at Fabricville on Somerled like almost 10 years ago.  But what on earth did I buy it for?

Avery was a mouse… Mighty Mouse?
