Less Than Two Weeks

Christmas is speeding toward me at breakneck speed.  I still have stuff to do!  There are still cookies to be baked!  Some nights Chase opens the door on the advent calendar and I think that it just might have been a bad idea.  I’m not sure that I need the constant reminder of how soon Christmas will be here.   Read the rest of this entry »

Pink Smarties Cake!

I really, really can’t believe that it’s been a whole year.  Where did the time go?  I’ve been trying, unsuccessfully, to figure out the answer to that question.  It’s unbelievable really.  It was a good day even if we all cried just a little.

More Ways To Upcycle A Sweater

In the comments to this post Lauren asked me if I bought the hat that Avery is wearing in the picture.  I didn’t buy it, I knitted it last year for Chase.  But that got me thinking about how to make a similar hat without having to know how to knit.  Turns out, it can be done.  And in a fraction of the time.  A tiny, little fraction.  I don’t know if I’ll ever knit again.  (But if you want to try it you can find it here.) Holidaze

On Monday I won four tickets to see Cirque Dreams Holidaze at the Kennedy Center.  You heard right, I won something.  I was nervous about a 7:30 show in DC on a Wednesday night but who passes on free tickets to a child-appropriate show at the Kennedy Center?  So I pulled out the holiday finery.

Piece On Earth

It’s done!  The quilt top is done!  I squared it off and attached the backing.  If I was a smart kind of a gal I would have tied, washed and wrapped it up tonight but I’m feeling good about getting it done in time and so you know now it’s about waiting until the last minute to finish it off. You Can’t Catch Me I’m The Gingerbread Man

The tremendous quantity of gingerbread that we made and froze is now all baked!  There stares the gingerbread boy from inside his glass prison.  Don’t worry I’ll liberate him one day soon as I can’t seem to keep my hand out of the cookie jar.

We Hit The Heap

I remembered and forgot about Holiday Heap twice today but finally made it over just before 5.  Chase thought the vendors were ok but was much happier about running into her good buddy and her teacher.   Read the rest of this entry »

How To Decorate You Gingerbread House

You know it’s done when every surface is covered with icing and candy.  That’s when it’s done.  Then the eating begins.  Well, we left the front in tact so maybe that will hang around as a decoration for a little while.

Gingerbread

I feel like I’ve written so many posts about my kitchen shenanigans.  Things that seemed like a good idea at the time.  Recipes that seemed so simple going into them.  Maybe the 14 pages of directions should have tipped me off but the cookies were so easy to do.  I had no idea.  Add gingerbread to the list.

Feeling Festive

We have a little tree!  I’ll share with you the story of the tree.  First, I saw the pink tree with lights at Wal Mart.  That’s what got me thinking about this whole child’s tree business in the first place.  But it was twenty bucks.  Not breaking the bank but twenty bucks nonetheless.
