Flamingos Flowers and Volunteer Chives

As it turns out I love herb gardening.  I used to get all worked up over it.  I was afraid to cut and use them because the plants I put in the ground at the beginning of the summer were always so small and never seemed to go anywhere.  I’d look at the five stalks for parsley sticking out of the ground and compare them to the giant bundle that you buy in the grocery store for a dollar.  So discouraging.   Read the rest of this entry »

Somebody Made This Dress

Every now and then I write a quick post about a special find that I’ve picked up along the way.  Recently though I picked up a dress for Avery that is just so special.  I can’t stop thinking about it and I have to tell you why.   Read the rest of this entry »

Peak Happiness

We spent a long hot day in DC today.  Man, I couldn’t buy my way into a smile.  Too much pressure I guess.  Because once they were sitting alongside some nondescript building under some scaffolding with drinks from some random Starbucks the smiles started to creep back.  Well, sort of.   Read the rest of this entry »

Baby Belly

Don’t you love a good one?  She’s just discovered her belly button as her belly has grown so large that the button part is all out-ey now.

I had a good laugh on the playground today when I picked Chase up from school.  One of her teachers pulled me aside and said that there was a little confusion at lunch time. Read the rest of this entry »

Sad Trombone

Not much to report here.  I got knocked down by something that I refuse to believe was the flu.  I mean honestly, I had a flu shot and it’s APRIL.  I don’t know.  I’m just glad it only lasted 24 hours.  The fever part anyway.

So here we are careening into Easter, and family and the Easter bunny and all that.  I wish I was 100% or maybe I should just be glad that I have an excuse for procrastinating this time.  If I ever get better and if it ever stops raining maybe we’ll have some fun in this house again.  Wah-wah.

Strawberry Shirtcake

Chase told me for weeks, WEEKS that strawberry shortcake needed a new jacket.  And somehow, unknown to Chase and perhaps the result of telepathy, Chase’s good buddy resolved to make her one.  Well, it’s a shirt really but if you ask Chase it’s a shirt on one side and reverses to a jacket on the other.  And if you put it on backwards it’s pyjamas.   Read the rest of this entry »

My Big Kid

She had a tough day today.  It was nearly 90 but still my kids have snotty noses.  Chase, in particular, seems to be fighting something off.  There was a lot of whining today.  Sadly I’m to blame for a lot of it.  Sometimes I listen to what’s going on around here and I feel bad for Ben.  Don’t get me wrong.  He can whine right along with the rest of us.  He didn’t earn the nickname delicate genius for nothing after all.  But when he wines it doesn’t sound quite as whiny as when me and Chase are going at it.  I have to do something about that.  It’s kind of terrible.   Read the rest of this entry »

Little Feet In Big Shoes

The way Avery looks up to her big sister is so very cute and amazing.  It’s not like they’re so far apart in age but four must seem a long way off when you’re not yet two.  Of course now that I’ve blown the dust off of all my shiny shoes she likes to try those on too.  Actually, everyone’s kind of impressed by my shiny shoes including me.  I kind of forgot how much I liked them.

I Heart Art :: Contemporary Quilt Design

IMG_20110405_204445So some night this past week, probably Tuesday, I held off changing into my pyjamas and went back out after dinner.  And I sure do love my pyjamas but it was totally worth putting off.  I have lots of big ideas about quilting but traditional quilting is for someone way more detail oriented than I am.   Which is why the workshop about modern quilt technique was totally perfect for me.   Read the rest of this entry »

Making Fun

I don’t think Avery would trade her canvas bag seat and chalk paint bottles for all the German made toys, dolls, or heck, even dollhouses in the world.  Sometimes when I can’t take the chalk bits or the sound of chalk rolling around on the floor anymore I pile it all into the dump truck and shut it in the vestibule.   Read the rest of this entry »
