I still haven’t posted our summer bucket list. We weren’t that successful in composing the original list but as the days pass we think of things to add to it. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, we’re mostly crossing things off as we think of them… so actually we still don’t have much of a list.
I got this idea from a Klutz book but it’s not the first time that we’ve tried to make bubble solution. It is the first time that we’ve actually tried to follow the recipe using the recommended glycerine. We’ve looked for it unsuccessfully before but this time we finally found it at Whole Foods. I kinda wished I’d checked there first because even though you’re *supposed* to be able to find glycerine at the pharmacy if you try to find it at, let’s say CVS, you will only find it in the form of laxative suppositories and you *might* feel compelled to explain to the pharmacist that you’re just making bubble solution. So really, just go to Whole Foods.
I think the glycerine helps make the bubble solution really good. the other important rule in bubble making is to use Dawn dish soap because it makes the best bubbles. We tried palmolive once and it makes bubbles but not good ones. Here’s the recipe:
- 1/2 c soap
- 5 c water
- 2 T glycerine
I didn’t quite have enough soap today to make up the recipe as directed (you’re shocked, I know) but it was still fun and we’re going out first thing tomorrow for more! I mixed it up and pored it into a rimmed cookie sheet so the kids could dip a giant coat hanger wand into it.
