It happened. I have a kindergartner. Crazy! Chase is super excited. Even though when I picked her up today she told me that she had a wardrobe malfunction. So I asked her what happened next. Kids laughed she said. Did you laugh? I asked. No. Did you cry? I asked. No. What did you do? I (sassy foot tapping arms crossed stance assumed) waited. That kid. Am I oversharing? I thought the story was so cute and she seemed to unbothered by it. The report of the day was otherwise good. There’s a pink crayon in her box. She’s thrilled.

We’ve been reading school themed books from our bookshelf just for fun. Here’s what’s we’ve been reading:

The Teacher From The Black Lagoon by Mike Thaler (and the gym teacher)- These books poke fun at all of the anxiety that builds up around school and new teachers.

Franklin Goes To School by Paulette Bourgeois- Chase declared this one too baby… a story about first day jitters.

Miss Nelson Is Missing by Harry Allard- This is a favorite. A funny story about how a disgruntled teacher gets her students to behave.

Jessica by Kevin Henkes- A story about a girl and her imaginary friend and making real friends in kindergarten.

Starting School by Janet and Allan Ahlberg- This book has lovely illustrations if a little heavy on the Baby Jesus for a back to school book. The story takes you through the first half of the school year when they put on a Christmas pageant.

What are you reading and how was the first day at your house?
