This Weekend

It was the busy good kind. There was the Baltimore Book Festival (and IKEA in the morning, because professional development.)

And They All Got Ponies

girls

Ben had to work from home all weekend so we’ve been trying to keep busy. Yesterday I took the girls to the mall to take care of a few things and today we visited the National Book Festival because, I’m not a planner, but it sounded like fun. It was a pretty perfect day as far a days go. Nobody cried, refused to go on or wet themselves. There was no traffic and we found an amazing parking spot. The lines weren’t crazy, the weather was perfect and I remembered to pack snacks. Bonus points. Read the rest of this entry »

In Old-Fashioned Times

My kids call them the old-fashioned times. Like when I was a kid and we only had two TV channels, 6 and 12. Two channels! No netflix, no Ipad, no Apple TV. As a result, there are whole swaths of American TV culture that I don’t understand (but we had Degrassi!). When I was little, like my kids’ ages, if you were home sick you could watch morning programming for kids and after that it was pretty much just Coronation Street. Every time my kids make complaints or demands about the television I think about making them watch that all day and then making them walk to school (uphill in the snow).

Well, today Me and Avery watched Mr. Bean after lunch. We just happened to catch it. Because did you know that the local PBS affiliate shows a big giant block of British programm(e)s in the middle of the day? Just like in the old days, right between the morning kids programming and whatever comes on after school. I’d forgotten about Mr. Bean and now Chase is all carrying on about how she wants to see Mr. Bean too. So because now there IS netflix I hopped on there to see what’s available and future me had already saved it in my instant queue. Because, apparently, I have already had this idea.

I was going to roll it out tomorrow but then I found out that The Wizard Of Oz was re-released in 3D! I’m totally going to make that happen this weekend.

Starting Back

I can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve updated here. We’ve been a little caught up in back to school. All of the children are getting settled in but I’m still adjusting to a whirlwind of carpooling, pick up and drop off arrangements.

I can’t believe how big they are all getting and how quickly. At her last appointment, Chase measured 4′ 2″. Fifty inches, FIFTY. In first grade. I had almost talked myself out of that number but they printed it on the visit summary that they sent me home with. Crazy. Like her sister, Bennett is in the 55th percentile for weight and the 84th for height. 84th! Tallest children ever. I don’t know exactly how tall Avery is but she’s perfectly spindly like a three year old string bean.

We’ve been having fun too. Without all the open ended time that summer afforded we’re taking our weekends more seriously. I’m looking forward to exploring more trails while the fall weather holds, apple picking and maybe, MAYBE squeezing in Dutch Wonderland before it gets too chilly. We’ll see that might have to get pushed to next year’s bucket list.

I’m ready to wear a long sleeved shirt. Not a jacket or a lightweight sweater but just like a long sleeved tee. It can still stay warm for a good long while just not hot. I’m done with the hot.
