I always say things like ‘this is the last time I’ll mention it’ or ‘I’m totally done complaining now’ but, with regard to the tomatoes, I’m not quite there yet. Almost but not quite.
At the end of it all I have 20 pints and 3 quarts of tomatoes. I only broke 1 jar and only almost blew the house up once. That a success, right? Read the rest of this entry »
Chief Equipment and Icebath Officers that is. We’re elbow deep in tomatoes here but slowly digging our way out. Chase actually helped me a little before I let her loose in that bowl of ice water there.
This must have been Avery’s two busiest days ever. She woke up earlyish this morning. So I went and got her from her crib and brought her in bed with us hoping that she’d snuggle up and sleep for another hour or so. We both dozed and after a while I heard her start to babble a little. Makes me feel fine? Seriously, I’m sorry I can’t help these things. I think I’d forgotten how good corn could be. We’ve eaten plenty of it this summer and it’s been good but this was GOOD. With all the birthday parties this weekend I didn’t make it to the market so we went to a teeny tiny one yesterday. There were exactly three vendors. I’ve never been to a market quite so small. So I’ve been thinking about doing something. Writing something that is. Something that I don’t sit down and bang out on the fly. Something that is well thought out and coherent. Something that requires planning. Planning… right. So all I have to do is organize my thoughts a little. Maybe on a piece of paper with a pen. Chase has been asking for mac and cheese for the last two days. So we made a yummy baked mac and cheese for dinner. Chase requested it, helped and then ate it too! Amazing.
I thought about writing down the recipe and then scrapped that idea when I realized that it would read something like prepare the macaroni according to package directions. In the meantime and as soon as you get to the point where you realize you are too tired and lazy to make a bechamel for the cheese sauce, in a food processor, combine grated parmesan cheese, whatever cream cheese you have on hand, and the milk in the fridge leftover from lunch and blend until smooth. Two cakes, two outfit changes, two, maybe three goodie bags. The weekend of many parties. So many parties that I could hardly keep it all straight and almost showed up two hours early for one. Whoops.
I have plenty of things on my to do list but I’m recovering tonight from all the time I spent in the last few days cutting felt into tiny pieces. Today’s birthdays were for two of Chase’s very special friends so we made some very special gifts. Chase even helped me do some sewing on the machine.
The thing about making surprises is the waiting. As soon as I pull stuff off the machine I want to run right out and give it to the intended recipient. Sometimes before I even cut off the threads and finish up properly. These two projects didn’t involve too much sewing but I did kill an entire bottle of fabric glue.
To swing a swing. Apparently. I really wanted these pictures to be exactly the same but somehow the playground must have changed in the last three years and I didn’t pack the same outfit. Little bits that were somehow critical.
