New Tights

They came!  Isn’t the first thing you do with your new stockings to put them on your head?  I resisted the urge to just pick up whatever tights I could find at Target and try something with an aura of quality.  I ordered these from L.L. Bean for 7 bucks each with free shipping.  I have no experience with LL Bean tights but so far, they appear to be true to size.  We’ll see how they fare after a run through the wash.  It seems that no matter how big I buy tights from Target they always shrink down to an unbelievably small size so that the crotch gusset is always between her knees.   Read the rest of this entry »

It’s A Spinning Around Dress

Sometimes I find myself facing a little bit of a dilemma and it almost always involves feeling nostalgic over something kind of ridiculous.  Like this dress.  It’s a perfectly fine dress but it looks like it took a time machine here straight from 1986.  Oh, but it’s cute.  I couldn’t help myself.  If you see Chase tomorrow I bet she tells you how it spins.  I think it’s just right.  Though I did get talked into ordering some new tights today.  I’m glad I went with my gut on this one.

Loosely translated it’s a neck hider.  I’m still trying to work out this crazy scarf idea.  (No need to explain the look she’s giving me in the picture, right?)  I’m using the turtle part of the neck of a felted wool sweater.  This is at least its third incarnation and it’s still not quite right.  Things I’ve learned: no matter what you say it’s impossible to sell a four year old on wool as not scratchy.  If you line a knit fabric with a woven to make it feel smooth and wonderful on the inside it won’t stretch anymore.  Sigh.  Lessons learned.
