KCWC Spring 2012 : Wrap Up

Not a strong finish the to the week but I did knock something off my to do list.  I ironed this homemade Strawberry Shortcake patch onto this denim dress a while ago and just now got around to stitching it down and since I was being productive I decided to stitch down the pocket flaps too.  They’re fake pockets, are CONSTANTLY wrinkled up and I’m not going to iron the thing so it seemed like a reasonably solution.   Read the rest of this entry »

My Curtain!

I didn’t adequately supervise the installation and so it’s not actually hanging where it was intended to go but I like it!  I’ll just have to be a little smarter about how I use the remaining three napkins to make the other curtain.  I guess this next one will have to be more authentically patchwork.  I just don’t have that much material left to work with but have a whole other window to cover.   Read the rest of this entry »

Found :: Green and Fuzzy

I spotted this one day at the thrift store.  I almost never find interesting art.  Is it a stretch to call this art?  It hangs on the wall anyway and I fell in love right away.  I’ve been wanting to get rid of some too cutesy prints that I bought when Chase was a baby and this was exactly right.   Read the rest of this entry »

Sunday Morning (PJ) Pants

Chase seems to grow taller by the day… not by the week or month.  All of a sudden she’s outgrown all her pj’s all over again.  So I got this idea to make her some out of these giant stripey knit shirts that I found at the thrift store.  The pants are made from the sleeves! Big Girls

So we’re starting to think about transitioning Avery into a big girl bed.  We thought she might be ready, you know?  Chase was wanting bunk beds for a long, long time.  Then the long weekend presented itself and it seemed like a good a time as any to assemble stuff.  Two trips to IKEA later and we had a brand new loft bed.  The first trip was mostly about meatball eating.  The second trip was for supplies. Works In Progress

The trees are up!  That’s right, the trees.  This year there are three.  There’s still one in the basement… but no.  I have to exhibit some willpower and, you know, remember what’s it’s like taking it all back down again.  Not a single one of them is done.  They all need tweaking.  As soon as you start taking pictures you can see how crooked and unevenly decorated they are.   Read the rest of this entry »

Vintage Ticking

Unfortunately, my love of vintage textiles is taking me down a slippery shabby chic slope.  I can see that now.  I never intended for this to happen but here I am with a closetful of mismatched vintage linens for the girls’ room and quilts and afghans are coming out of my ears.  I had such a promising start with the Alexander Henry bedspread too.  What happened there?

I had all kids of plans involving these little wooden birdhouses and now, well, I just don’t know anymore.  In any event, I bought these two little quilts over the weekend.  I think that they’re handmade.  The stitching is kind of wonky and one of the squares isn’t quilted.  I looked at that thinking how did that make it through QC?  But reliable sources agree that they’re probably handmade.  I LOVE the prints.  Lots of greens and pinks and paisley and the quilts are similar but not the same.  Someone worked really hard on them and I think that the backs are pieced too.  Not like album quilt hard but hard enough to make them cute I think. The Kitchen

We’ve been here five years and it’s now, just maybe, starting to shape up.  Ben installed some shelves for me!  Sorry no staging here, oversized bags of pretzel chips and Cheerios, it holds them all.  And my Pyrex, my pyrex, it’s glorious!

It’s pretty great to actually have my cookbooks in the kitchen too.  The dining room was close but the kitchen is better.  AND did I mention that the shelves were purchased and installed on the same day.  You really can’t ask for much more than that.   Read the rest of this entry »

No Paper Doll Today

Mostly because when Chase got home today she drew her inspiration from the collaborative work hanging on the easel that me and Avery worked on.  So she drew flowers in pencil.  Then she hung it on her newly covered bulletin board.  I tried this once before but it didn’t work out so well.   Read the rest of this entry »

So, remember this?  I finally figured out what to do with it.  Actually, it turns out to be not that satisfying.  It took me just under two years to figure it out but I kind of thought it was longer!  I tried to explain that it’s more a shelf, a curio if you will, than a dollhouse.  That didn’t go so well.
