The Ween

I woke up with indigestion. That’s the best description of my affliction that I can give. This has never happened before! Halloween induced anxiety? Could not be crazier! Halloween is one crazy party. One kid runs ahead and one lags behind and I never know where anybody is. I feel a lot of pressure to make sure that everyone has a good time but I find it impossible to do. Argh! My only hope is that there are enough people that everybody finds someone to have fun with while I try to keep tabs on the kids. No one got lost! I don’t even know how I would do trick or treating without 10 or more adults. Read the rest of this entry »

We took a little summer getaway. It was nice to get away for a while but we’re back now and digging out from under a pile of laundry. I think the girls enjoyed themselves and that’s what vacation really is, right? There’s no sleeping in or, I don’t know, respite from the dishes. It’s just moving the home operation to a different base. But something about making those memories makes it worthwhile.

I bought Chase new shoes for school today and a Hello Kitty lunch box but before we get too far down that path we’re going to attempt one very final hurrah voyage to the, much closer, ocean. We still have to cross go to the beach and make macaroni necklaces off our bucket list. How’s your summer been so far?

It’s My Hard Drive

It’s dead. I have no laptop. I tried to explain that the coffee rings on the cover were a symbol of my undying MacBook love and affection and not, absolutely not, of neglect. I dropped it off on Monday and, finally, they called today to tell me that it’s almost ready (and to reassure me that this disaster was not my fault). I’m SO ready to have it back. This week has not been an eye opening look into my life unplugged where I realize how much I need to disconnect. This week has been a stressful sequence of days full of pacing from the living room to the kitchen aimlessly trying to remember what I was just doing and looking forlornly at the table where my computer usually lives. Tonight my craving for speed and connectivity finally forced me to abandon my phone and tablet stand ins in favor of the mini… the one connected to the tv. This monitor’s a little bigger than I would like it to be. I’ll probably go blind typing this.

HOWEVER, I felt like I needed to share this awesomeness with you. Jen at Classic Play posted her most recent installment in her Creative Family series and it’s about our family! Woot! I feel so honored to be included among all of the other awesome families that she ‘s featured. I hope you’ll hop over there for a read and while you’re at it just add Classic Play to your reader so you can keep up with all of the cool stuff she’s got going on over there. She’s got a bunch of awesome contributors and be sure to take a look at her Art School series.

Ok, there’s more but I can’t bear it. I can’t wait to be back for real. Soon… but not that soon because we’re hitting the road for a wedding tomorrow. But still, soon and surely with pictures and a story. Remember this?

Several weeks ago, I submitted an application for tickets to a taping of the Martha Stewart Show… and I got one!  And not just any show, mind you, the baby shower show.  So I hopped a train to NYC on Tuesday.  The only sad part was that I only got one ticket and not the two I requested.  Me and Shannon were supposed to go together.  It was going to be awesome but it wasn’t meant to be.  It’s ok though.  Even though I could have talked for the entirety of the 2.5 hour train ride it was nice to have some solitude too.  The train is so, so nice. The Incredible Edible Egg

Today was the second annual, what I like to call, gawker-stalker brunch at Volt in Frederick.  I cannot tell you how much I look forward to this birthday present.  Happy (belated) birthday to us!  And this year no one is pregnant.  Yes, we would like more mimosas to wash down that half a dozen scones. It started with Thanksgiving and ended with putting up the Christmas tree!  But it was the best kind of busy.  The fun kind.  The kind where you drop into bed exhausted at the end of the night because you killed an entire bottle of wine… or vodka as the case may be.   Read the rest of this entry »

Anti Anxiety

I never got around to writing down the story of Avery’s birth and only seven short months later I find that I can hardly remember some of the bigger details.  I tried to recall parts of it today and found myself repeating I thought… I thought until I finally just had to admit that I just couldn’t remember what I was thinking anymore.  I guess that’s how it goes.   Read the rest of this entry »

So Mad I Could Spit

washed-out-whitehouse.JPGAfter the library this morning Chase and I hit the road for D.C. Erin and I planned a lunch to catch up with a woman we know at Ebbitt. Erin picked the restaurant and really knows her stuff man. We had a 1:15 reservation and the place was packed. Would you believe that when our party was called, that someone actually tried to steal our spot? Yeah, it was that busy. I’ve never eaten in the dining room at Ebbitt only at the express lunch counter (where I discovered those sweet spicy thai Kettle Chips). The atmosphere was great (full of hunting jazz like duck decoys and a giant bronze dog sculpture) wood paneling and geese suspended from the ceiling that were particularly appealing to Chase. She had a great time and loved her grilled cheese and applesauce but mostly, she loved the pickle. Read the rest of this entry »
