We had a great night out on the town today.  It is Friday after all and it’s practically summer vacation!  We visited my friend Cathy at her studio to check out the great work that the artists are doing there.  The artists at Make Studio do some really incredible work.  We bought a piece.  I didn’t even know who I was looking at but I couldn’t leave it.  Tony Chiba as the Streetfighter has a new home with me.  I love these too.  If you’re local, and/or know Cathy, ask her about what she does and ask her for the tour.  It’s pretty amazing.   Read the rest of this entry »

Thomas Tea Party

In the summer, reminders about how life is so, so good come fast and furious.  The trees fill in and make shade, our “garden” grows green things whether in the form of flowers or otherwise and everyday I think, man, hanging out with friends is such a special treat; and then, as it turns out, we very often get to do it again the very next day.   Read the rest of this entry »

Magic Garden

This is maybe the coolest thing we’ve ever bought for a dollar.  It’s like the borax crystal projects that we’ve tried.  You set up the paper strips in the plastic tray and pour in the solutions.  It was easy enough for Chase to put together with a little help.  And it started “blooming” in about two hours.  She’s going to be so excited to see how it changed over night! I should have had this post written an hour ago but my youngest child still refuses to sleep.  Pull ups drive her crazy but changing sheets in the middle of the night makes me crazy.  I’m not sure what we’re going to do about that.  I’ve been trying to figure it out for weeks now.  It seems to be all quiet now though, phew. Today Was Not So Hot

This morning was gray, it rained, I dragged my butt (Avery’s words) around the house trying to make sure everyone was getting to where they needed to be on time.  It was hard.  It felt like I skipped my dose of iron except I hadn’t.  We did it though and somehow ended up being early and having to wait around for Avery’s class to start.  Errands never seem to take as long as you think they will when you allow for ample time. Good Day

Easter 2012, Cylburn Arboretum. We hunted for eggs, had a little hike, a picnic and enjoyed the terrific weather.  Dinner was slow roasted leg of lamb, roasted asparagus, parsley(ed?) potatoes and strawberry shortcake for dessert.  I’m coming out of the best kind of food coma.  How was your day?

Almost Easter

Easter is exciting around here.  Mainly because we have family come into town but we’re having fun doing a little bit of decoration too.  Fresh Market, hands down, has the best selection of Easter treats for a super market.  That’s where we found these little cuties.  Sugar eggs!  The girls love them.   Read the rest of this entry »

We did it up right this time.  No birthday parties or conferences or anything.  Well, you know what we did yesterday.    Today we got a late start… Chase didn’t get out of bed until 9:00!  9:00!  That might be normal at your house but definitely not here.  Even Avery slept until 7:30 which isn’t sleeping in but isn’t waking up early either.  I’ll take it. Today was supposed to be better! And it was… mostly.  Ben took the girls out this morning and I had a great visit with my good friend Erin and her sweet little boy. Plus, they brought delicious spanakopita and hummus.  What a nice treat!  And the girls came back with just enough time to have a quick play date with JJ.   Read the rest of this entry »

Field Trip :: Hampton National Historic Site

Chase has her first taste of junior ranger-ing this past summer at the Outer Banks.  Now she’s all about collecting badges.  We drove out to Hampton today because I’ve always been curious about what it is.  And by drove out I mean we drove beyond the places we usually go by about half a mile… maybe less.  We’ve just never visited before which is kind of crazy because a) it’s pretty cool and b) we practically drive by it all the time and c) it’s totally free.  Read the rest of this entry »
