Cabane à Sucre

We spent a lovely brisk afternoon at Oregon Ridge Nature Center learning about maple syrup.  It’s kind of an important event to me I guess because we did it so much growing up.  Definitely an annual affair for kids.  Too bad I didn’t learn to love maple syrup until I was in my 20′s.  I kind of missed the boat on that one.  What else is new? The Incredible Edible Egg

Today was the second annual, what I like to call, gawker-stalker brunch at Volt in Frederick.  I cannot tell you how much I look forward to this birthday present.  Happy (belated) birthday to us!  And this year no one is pregnant.  Yes, we would like more mimosas to wash down that half a dozen scones. Dragon of the Red Dawn

It’s hard not to get sucked into the Magic Treehouse series. Chase listens to them in her workshop time at school so I really didn’t feel a need to press the issue of chapter books. But she really likes them and when we saw an audiobook version of Dragon of the Red Dawn at the library we checked it out. We listened to it in the car. Once, twice, over and over and over again. I can’t even estimate how many times we listened to the story. Read the rest of this entry »

35mm

I (maybe) finally ended my new camera body v. new external flash v. new lens conundrum.  I’ll spend you the thrilling details.  I *think* I like it.  We’ll see.  I have to take it for a little more of a test drive.  Some of my pictures are still out of focus but I got a few good shots and didn’t feel like smashing my camera.  So far so good.  Seems pretty sharp.   Read the rest of this entry »

Holidaze

On Monday I won four tickets to see Cirque Dreams Holidaze at the Kennedy Center.  You heard right, I won something.  I was nervous about a 7:30 show in DC on a Wednesday night but who passes on free tickets to a child-appropriate show at the Kennedy Center?  So I pulled out the holiday finery.

We Hit The Heap

I remembered and forgot about Holiday Heap twice today but finally made it over just before 5.  Chase thought the vendors were ok but was much happier about running into her good buddy and her teacher.   Read the rest of this entry »

Whirlwind

It started with Thanksgiving and ended with putting up the Christmas tree!  But it was the best kind of busy.  The fun kind.  The kind where you drop into bed exhausted at the end of the night because you killed an entire bottle of wine… or vodka as the case may be.   Read the rest of this entry »

Pumk’d

(1) IMG_20101024_122456We now have four pumpkins, one for each of us, and just in time.  Last year we opted out of Weber’s but I’m glad we went back.  It’s close, familiar and Chase always has lots of fun.  Who cares if it’s a total racket and part of the hay ride backs onto a sub development?  Ben had to stand on the catwalk and yell NOW at the exact moment that Chase passed by an entrance to the hay maze so that I could tackle her and then gently assist her in exiting.  I mean really.  Between the hay maze and the slide she had A LOT of fun.  Me?  I’m partial to the donuts. Busiest Saturday Ever

Avery was still going strong after dinner while the rest of us had the strong urge to be horizontal wrapped in many layers of something warm.  Maybe that’s because she wasn’t involved in the many rounds of how many kids can fit in a stroller (sit n’ stand… and stand anyone?) or a wagon or under the play equipment that were played today or that she slept the entire time that we were at the park.  We definitely made the most of city living today.  I’m tired but I know that the weekend won’t feel like it was too short.  And have I mentioned how much she loves her sister?   Read the rest of this entry »

Summer Reading

An appropriate title now that it’s officially fall, no?  I love reading but it happens sooooo slowly (because I watch so much tv?  Noooo couldn’t be that.)  Quality not quantity is my mantra.   Read the rest of this entry »
