Stand By Your Pan

Since it’s only Tuesday and we’ve already eaten more than our fair of pasta and rice I decided to change it up a little tonight.  We had chili and cornbread or corncake depending on how you want to spin it.  In my opinion, that doesn’t make it sound more appetizing but there’s no accounting for the tastes of a four year old.   Read the rest of this entry »

Less Than Two Weeks

Christmas is speeding toward me at breakneck speed.  I still have stuff to do!  There are still cookies to be baked!  Some nights Chase opens the door on the advent calendar and I think that it just might have been a bad idea.  I’m not sure that I need the constant reminder of how soon Christmas will be here.   Read the rest of this entry »

Feeling Festive

We have a little tree!  I’ll share with you the story of the tree.  First, I saw the pink tree with lights at Wal Mart.  That’s what got me thinking about this whole child’s tree business in the first place.  But it was twenty bucks.  Not breaking the bank but twenty bucks nonetheless.

How To Eat A Ham Sandwich

You can eat a ham sandwich wherever and whenever you please.  And ham sandwiches are tastiest when shared.  See, the thing about lunch boxes is that they have to be taken directly to the kitchen.  Otherwise, clever children will find then, open them and eat the contents when the moment strikes.

Big Girl

Working on feeding herself makes for interesting mealtimes and interesting hair. She works on it ok for a minute and then starts to play.  And don’t try to take the food away just because she’s playing with it.   Read the rest of this entry »

Fall Back

How come weekends are never long enough?  Not even when you get an “extra” hour?  I guess because getting an “extra” hour just means that everyone is thrown off of their game for an entire day more than anything else.  I suppose I shouldn’t complain.  Both of my kids slept until almost 8 yesterday’s time or almost 7 today and were both asleep by 7 tonight or 8 by yesterday’s time.  So it really wasn’t so bad.  Even though they were tired and my head is spinning a little.  You know?  Like, hey why ARE these kids so tired, it’s only 6:30?  Oh, right.  It’s kind of really 7:30.  How’d the switch go at your house? Bad Babies, Books and Lactobacillus

In spite of all the toys there are two things that Avery truly loves to do.  Dig in the rocks and dirt in the only living plant that we have in the house and open the door on the tv cabinet and pull all of the cords and devices out.  She broked the blue ray by pulling on it and then after several weeks mysteriously “fixed” it the same way.

That Terrible Halloween Night Commeth

Everyone, including myself, wants to know when I started caring about Halloween.  I don’t know.  It must have come along with the kids like endless fatigue.  What can I say, we’re having a lot of fun.   Read the rest of this entry »

My Girl

After Dance ClassIt’s probably so not cool for your mom to think so but I can’t help but think that my girl is so cool.  Snake tattoo on her forearm?

So that glasses thing is going well.  They mostly stay on all day.  Sometimes they come off and then I forget to remind her to put them on again but there’s no fighting or hiding them or any of the other craziness that I anticipated.  Also, after just a few short weeks with glasses I’m starting to find that it looks like something’s missing when they’re not on.  And I think she looks a lot like my mother.   Read the rest of this entry »

You Win Some

I dropped two bags of junk off at the thrift store and, quite stupidly, decided just to pop my head in. You know, for a second. But I couldn’t leave the lovely little knob puzzles, or the dinosaur floor puzzle, or the board games, or the doll pram. What would Chase say if she found out I passed on a doll pram? So I probably came out even on this one. I rationalize it by saying that I really chose only really good finds and passed up a bunch of other junk. That’s something, right?

Ok, but really?  We didn’t even turn on the tv today.  Not even once.  Makes it totally worth it.  And I can totally get behind games after dinner.  I also put Boggle Jr. up in Chase’s room which isn’t much of a game at all but I thought it might be something she’d enjoy doing on her own.  And she did, this morning at 2:30am.  I went into her room and tucked her back into bed but I have no idea how long she was up playing.  Anyway, it all only cost me a stern eye rolling from the man person that lives here.  I can live with that.  Oh, I forgot about the yogurt maker.  I’m working on that right now!

The next few weeks are chock full of doctor appointments.  I’m sure we’ll all be thoroughly exhausted by it.  I’m not looking forward to it even a little bit.

Avery's new to us and cute Janie and Jack overalls. I love them.

We have no room for these toys. What was I thinking?
