This Happened Today

I can’t believe how fast she is growing. So fast it’s scary. Whenever she’s having trouble sleeping and I start feeling frustrated I think about how quickly time goes and how lucky and privileged I am to rock her back to sleep (works about 85% of the time). She’ll be trying to scoot away from me all too soon.

Last Bits Of Summer

Another busy day. Baby Bee had a doctor’s appointment this morning where I found out that her insurance is inactive. Not just that it’s inactive but that it’s been that way since July. Hahhahaha. But, no, not a joke. Awesome. So that has to be sorted out.

After lunch a fun outing seemed like a good idea so we drove over to Cylburn arboretum. It was a much needed respite. A few minutes to gather my thoughts while the littles ran around. I even closed my eyes on the picnic blanket for a second though. Just a second. Read the rest of this entry »

Cobbler Cobbler Mend My Shoe

Another winner from Martha’s book. I made this on Sunday. It was ok warm out of the oven at lunchtime but most delicious when fully cooled after dinner. I like that a little fresh ginger gets mixed in with the fruit. We ate it plain but it would be great with a scoop of ice cream or, even better, a dollop of whipped cream. Here’s the recipe: Read the rest of this entry »

The Summer Of Two

When Avery is all grown up with a career and a family of her own and she calls me to tell me that she’s never been so tired I will tell her…

You couldn’t possibly be more tired than the summer you were two. The summer you gave up your nap waaaay ahead of schedule just to keep up with your sister. You ended up so tired that you did things like poop your pants and bump your head repeatedly on flat or protruding surfaces at, above or below head bonking level. You also peed on the couch and lost your shit at every single business establishment that we visited and mostly over food.  I love you dear but that summer was wild.

That’s what I’ll tell her.

Even 20 + Blueberry Nutmeg Cake

There are 19 items on our summer bucket list.  I need one more to make it an even 20.  I thought of something today but never wrote it down so I’m still in the market for a good idea.  The bug museum sounds intriguing…  Read the rest of this entry »

Too Hot For The Pool

Did you go outside today?  Because, man, that is some intense heat.  I loaded the kids into the car and I could feel the sweat running down my back just from that tiny bit of exertion.

At the pool I double parked and herded the crew inside.  We were only there for 5 or 10 minutes but it was long enough for me to start feeling totally stressed that I had the baby out in the heat.  It wasn’t that though.  I bet that if I hadn’t a) parked in the fire lane b) been worried about Avery totally throwing a fit about not being able to stay c) eaten breakfast I probably would have been less of a basket case.  I wasn’t doing any better two hours later when all of those things (except for the fire lane part because I found a prime spot!) were still true AND I couldn’t find my big kid.  Argh!  Bedtime is like valium though isn’t it?  I feel so much better now.

Me and Chase have been using the paints that Martha gave us on all kinds of things.  Right now we’re working on painting another little house for their room.  What I really want is a vintage printer’s box but the only one I ever found cost 30 bucks and was too heavy for me to carry home at the moment.  It seems like 30 bucks is a fair price but I was way too pregnant to schlep it when I came across it.  So I keep adding these.  We are drowning in a sea of too tiny things. In theory these little curios will keep it all under control. The others are all white so we decided to jazz this one up a bit.  Also, I can’t find any white acrylic paint.

What’s on your to-do list for tomorrow?  I have to figure out if Avery has strep or not, get Chase to swimming lessons and lacrosse and Ben has a guitar lesson.  That kind of sounds like a lot.  I gotta remember to eat my cheese stick before I leave the house.

You Know How It Goes

I should know better than to jinx myself by posting that everybody’s sleeping.  It’s not terrible but it’s not consistently great.  It is and then it isn’t.  You know how it goes. Read the rest of this entry »

Taking It Easy

So if you’ve been inside my house in the last 4 weeks you’ll be impressed at how much of the rug in the living room is visible in this picture.  I know I am!   Read the rest of this entry »

On Sleep

Some of us are getting more than others.  Baby Bee is getting plenty though not exactly organized the way I’d like it to be.  We’re working on that.  I *think* I maybe *might* be getting some sleep though I can’t exactly be sure.  Chase feels fine, well rested and alert.  Ben, well, he’s not really a good measure on the adequate sleep front because no matter how much he gets he seems to wish it was more.   Read the rest of this entry »

Late Nights

Actually, so far it’s not that bad because we’re still in the round the clock eating/sleeping phase.  Also, lucky for me, I can’t exactly remember what’s coming up around the bend.   Read the rest of this entry »
