The kind of Cookies You Make

When you run out of ingredients?  These vanilla twists.  They won’t blow your mind but they’ll satisfy your sweet tooth and you can dunk them into your coffee.  You’d think that living through the moment where I realized that I very nearly almost foiled my own plan to make bacon and eggs for dinner last night would be enough to clue me into the fact that we are definitely OUT OF EGGS.   Read the rest of this entry »

Soccer, Sauce and Silliness

Spring soccer clinic started last weekend. Saturday morning was utterly miserable, dark, cloudy and wet but we got out there. There were many tears. There was much hand holding. There was much encouragement. There were threats. Eventually she played. And when she played she got in there and loved it! When we got home I asked Ben if I was the crazy mom on the sidelines. Probably the fact that I had to ask for feedback because I was so excited that I mostly can’t remember anything is not a good sign. I just didn’t even know that I had that soccer mom in me. Someone needs to tell her to simmer down. Read the rest of this entry »

Stand By Your Pan

Since it’s only Tuesday and we’ve already eaten more than our fair of pasta and rice I decided to change it up a little tonight.  We had chili and cornbread or corncake depending on how you want to spin it.  In my opinion, that doesn’t make it sound more appetizing but there’s no accounting for the tastes of a four year old.   Read the rest of this entry »

Gingerbread

I feel like I’ve written so many posts about my kitchen shenanigans.  Things that seemed like a good idea at the time.  Recipes that seemed so simple going into them.  Maybe the 14 pages of directions should have tipped me off but the cookies were so easy to do.  I had no idea.  Add gingerbread to the list.

Happy Friday

I woke up this morning, and even though I should have devoted the entire day to dusting and vacuuming, all I could think about was gingerbread.  I really wanted to make a gingerbread house but,  around 4 o’clock and after a glass of wine, I decided a few gingerbread boys was the more realistic goal for the day and they were tasty if I do say so myself.     Read the rest of this entry »

Fall Back

How come weekends are never long enough?  Not even when you get an “extra” hour?  I guess because getting an “extra” hour just means that everyone is thrown off of their game for an entire day more than anything else.  I suppose I shouldn’t complain.  Both of my kids slept until almost 8 yesterday’s time or almost 7 today and were both asleep by 7 tonight or 8 by yesterday’s time.  So it really wasn’t so bad.  Even though they were tired and my head is spinning a little.  You know?  Like, hey why ARE these kids so tired, it’s only 6:30?  Oh, right.  It’s kind of really 7:30.  How’d the switch go at your house? Many Loaves

After being out of bread for many, many days I decided to do something about it.  I experimented with a recipe for pain de mie a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty good.  Then I came across this recipe somewhere in the blogosphere and decided to try it.   Read the rest of this entry »

Summer’s Last Hurrah

Is this it then?  It’s cold and rainy today but yesterday it was still HOT.  It might have been the very last day for making homemade vanilla ice cream.

We used this recipe.  I modified the recipe a little so we wouldn’t have to go to the store. Read the rest of this entry »

End Of Summer Chowder

Lately, all I can think about is soup.  Soup and fresh bread to sop it up with.  I took back all of the books on preserving I borrowed from the library and took out a bunch of books about soups and bread.  I made Mollie Katzen’s corn chowder for dinner on Friday with BLT’s and the whole pot of soup was gone by lunch this afternoon.    I ate a bowl for dinner, a bowl for dessert and one more as a midnight snack.  I finished off the last one for lunch today.  When soup is good, it’s good.   Read the rest of this entry »

What’s In Your Lunchbox?

So this marks the last day of our first week of school.  With the holiday and one day of orientation I only had to come up with two lunches to send in the stegosaurus lunch box.  The stegosaurus lunchbox that Chase accessorized with a football ice pack.  That girl has style.
