Finished :: Flower Girl Dress

Yay for me.  So it turns out if fits fine.  I was forgetting that I initially tried to squeeze it on her over the t shirt she was wearing.  So it’s fine but still the pattern runs incredible small because Avery is wee and she fits into the size 3 that I cut out.  By way of comparison, she can’t hold up a pair of RTW shorts in 24 months. The Flower Girl Dress

So I started sewing this baby up.  It looks more dress-like than nightie-like although, truly, what’s the difference?  It might have to do with all the gathers.  Next time I’m going to try copying the one I made for Chase.  It was simpler in some ways. Read the rest of this entry »

Doll 2

I worked on stuff over the weekend.  I took the sad bits of cloth that were lying around waiting to be Avery’s counterpart to Chase’s silver Rapunzel and finally finished it.  I like this one.  She’s soft and cuddly she is.  And I gave her brown hair.  Brown and kind of greenish but she’s not that picky… yet.  I drew the face on this time but it looks about as good as the 4-year old created version.  Oh, and I used a Sharpie.  A while back I participated in a craft stash swap and Mindy sent me a pack of fabric pens.  Brilliant!  I love them already!  Thanks to Kim for organizing that, totally fun.   Read the rest of this entry »

Fair Rapunzel

So, she’s really happy with the way Rapunzel turned out.  I’m happy too though she doesn’t knock my socks off.  Avery wants one too now.  She picked out something nice and soft for the body so hers should be extra cuddly.   Read the rest of this entry »

In the Works

Chase has been bugging me to make her a doll for a week or two.  I took out the Martha Stewart Craft Encyclopedia that I have, not surprisingly, never used.  The doll, of course, is a princess.  She wanted her clothes to be silver, for her to have a crown, and a new dress afterward.   Read the rest of this entry »

I Made Something

It’s been a while friends, it’s been a while.  But I did it.  After many weeks of thinking about it I got back on the horse.  It’s a modified version of a dress that I bought for Chase over Memorial Day Weekend.   Read the rest of this entry »

I Heart Art :: Contemporary Quilt Design

IMG_20110405_204445So some night this past week, probably Tuesday, I held off changing into my pyjamas and went back out after dinner.  And I sure do love my pyjamas but it was totally worth putting off.  I have lots of big ideas about quilting but traditional quilting is for someone way more detail oriented than I am.   Which is why the workshop about modern quilt technique was totally perfect for me.   Read the rest of this entry »

A Project

Finished.  One Strawberry Shortcake style nightcap!  Well, it’s supposed to be a nightcap but when you’ve waited two whole days to have it in your hot little hands you just might wear it all day too.  Tomorrow I’ll try to get a picture of its intended use.  She’s cute that girl.  And she sure does love Strawberry Shortcake.

Paperback Pocket Duo

I haven’t been working on much of anything lately.  But I have been keeping my eye on the One Yard Wonders Sew Along at Pink Chalk Fabrics.  When I saw the completed week three projects (these are actually supposed to be for mail) I thought it would be perfect for a girl just totally swimming in books.  It took me weeks to complete the project between all the hemming and hawing, digging out just the right fabric, cutting and then actually putting it together. Cache-Cou

Loosely translated it’s a neck hider.  I’m still trying to work out this crazy scarf idea.  (No need to explain the look she’s giving me in the picture, right?)  I’m using the turtle part of the neck of a felted wool sweater.  This is at least its third incarnation and it’s still not quite right.  Things I’ve learned: no matter what you say it’s impossible to sell a four year old on wool as not scratchy.  If you line a knit fabric with a woven to make it feel smooth and wonderful on the inside it won’t stretch anymore.  Sigh.  Lessons learned.
