Progress

When did we get down to the week before Christmas?  Seriously, when??  I’m so behind.  I am not at all prepared.  But we did a little shopping today and a little baking too.

Chase continues to prove herself to be a great helper in the kitchen.  Great.  It’s amazing.  She rolled all of the pfeffernusse  in sugar and thumbprinted all of the strassburgs.  Which is what we call them but apparently they’re really called strassburgers and you can use the recipe to make spritz cookies.  Who knew.

I even started sewing last night so I’ll get a few things done yet.  Maybe not the whole list.  Actually, the problem is mostly that I never made a list in the first place.  All the same, I made Chase a much needed pair of pj pants last night and made her a cute little dress from this book.

My big plans for the week include figuring out where we stand with Christmas presents, an ultrasound, some more cookies, and making fried doughnuts for dinner.  What are your last minute plans?

Maybe It’s Just Me

But these two kids.  Well, they kinda look the same, no?  We came across this picture of Ben over the weekend and I was blown away by how much like little Ben she looks.  She doesn’t look so much like big Ben but little Ben, wow.   Read the rest of this entry »

Polka Dottie

Another quick pair of pj pants.  We never seem to have enough jammies and this particular pillowcase screamed pyjamas.  I cut out 4 more pairs today and started sewing.  That will be 3 for each girl (with camis or tees) plus whatever else is still hanging around.  Seriously, we have more a problem with jammies than socks.  I can’t figure it out but hopefully these will keep us covered because I’m ready to move onto dresses.  I looked through a couple of Burda magazines today and think I’m going to try to work up a simple dress but add a pinafore or apron and an underskirt… should be interesting.

Cowgirl Style, Cowgirl Attitude

I took all of these pictures of Chase picking flowers in the grass wearing these boots she picked out but later, after all the playing was over, I took some other ones.  And I think they might be more revealing of the truth.  That girl is, um, spunky.  4 going on 14.  The kind of sweet little girl who says things like “relax, I’m going right now!” when prompted to do something for a second, third or FOURTH time.  She’s full of cowgirl spirit.

I think that those boots and that spirit are going to be my inspiration for a back to school dress.  I have some lovely fabrics from Moda and this too.  I finally got down to G Street with my Living Social voucher in tow.  It doesn’t take long to spend 50 bucks at the fabric store I tell ya.  I still *might* need a little gingham in a nice grey or some other neutral.  Looks like it’s going to be the fall of prairie chic.

Housekeeping

Here ends a terrific weekend!  Today we mostly just played.  We left the house briefly only once to drop off another load of books on top of yesterday’s purge.  I weeded out some books and toys this weekend but there’s still way more to do.  It’s getting easier though.  I read an article a few months back that included this flow chart.  I wish it was as easy to get right of things as that chart makes it look. The Shorty

It turned out great!  It’s been so fun following along.  Hop over to Pink Chalk to check out the other finished jumper too.  Good stuff.  Apparently the shorty part is a surprise to people.  I know what it’s supposed to look like so it never occurred to me that the profile view in the published photo doesn’t really show that.  Anyway.  Surprise!

My Sew Along Week!

So I mentioned a while back, and maybe over and over again, that my pattern was coming up in the sew along that Pink Chalk Studio is hosting.  Well it’s finally here.  It’s kind of a thrill, getting to see what other people put together and how that is the same or different from your own vision.

This is my first published pattern and I’m not at all used to sending my work out for other people to use.  That took a little time to wrap my head around and so did not TOTALLY freaking out about what could possibly go wrong.  I did that for a while but I know now that it will be fine and I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished product.  I love the fabric choice up at Pink Chalk, this should be really sweet.  And while we’re getting a little shameless self-promotion out of the way, the next book comes out in November and I have a super cute project in there too!  I mean honestly, it’s nice to hear someone say you’re awesome every once in a while even if it’s just you.  I’m not even sure if that clip is totally relevant but it’s a classic so watch it all the same.

Anyway, I’m totally embracing this.  So, in the spirit of sew along I thought I’d post some links to some of the jumpers that some gals have already put together here, here, here. here. and here.

Finished :: Flower Girl Dress

Yay for me.  So it turns out if fits fine.  I was forgetting that I initially tried to squeeze it on her over the t shirt she was wearing.  So it’s fine but still the pattern runs incredible small because Avery is wee and she fits into the size 3 that I cut out.  By way of comparison, she can’t hold up a pair of RTW shorts in 24 months. The Flower Girl Dress

So I started sewing this baby up.  It looks more dress-like than nightie-like although, truly, what’s the difference?  It might have to do with all the gathers.  Next time I’m going to try copying the one I made for Chase.  It was simpler in some ways. Read the rest of this entry »

Doll 2

I worked on stuff over the weekend.  I took the sad bits of cloth that were lying around waiting to be Avery’s counterpart to Chase’s silver Rapunzel and finally finished it.  I like this one.  She’s soft and cuddly she is.  And I gave her brown hair.  Brown and kind of greenish but she’s not that picky… yet.  I drew the face on this time but it looks about as good as the 4-year old created version.  Oh, and I used a Sharpie.  A while back I participated in a craft stash swap and Mindy sent me a pack of fabric pens.  Brilliant!  I love them already!  Thanks to Kim for organizing that, totally fun.   Read the rest of this entry »
