The Last Hurrah

DSC_0255That’s it. Summer’s over. We had a fab time in Rehoboth but with the beach out of the way, now we can focus on back to school! I am cooking up a little scheme that will have to happen over the weekend and that I cannot say, with any degree of certainty, will work out but I think I’m going to try! Over the summer our school (and the other neighborhood school) underwent 1.6 million dollars in renovations (collectively) and this would be just a little finishing touch as the renovations included no fiber art (shocking!). If you’re local and into crazy schemes let me know.

We were only at the beach for a few days so it was a swimming, ice cream, fun everyday kind of a trip and I loved it. The girls made friends at the pool. They had a blast jumping in over and over and over again, telling each other how awesome their jumps were and Avery and the other little girls enjoyed each other’s company hanging out by the steps and bobbing around in the shallow part. (Click on the image below for full effect.)

B was kind of ambivalent about the beach. I estimate that after two weeks of half days at the beach she *might* have grown comfortable with the water and the sound of the surf.

Maybe. Maybe not. But she did like the sand.

One of the days was a little rainy so we visited a maritime historical site, a toy store and Funland! At dinner that night Avery alleged that her favorite part of the day was the maritime museum because she enjoyed seeing the model ships. What? Chase, more appropriately, declared Funland as the best part of the day and also her Hello Kitty mermaid doll.

I’m so grateful to be wrapping up the summer with this special trip. And now, I feel ready to buckle down.

We took a little summer getaway. It was nice to get away for a while but we’re back now and digging out from under a pile of laundry. I think the girls enjoyed themselves and that’s what vacation really is, right? There’s no sleeping in or, I don’t know, respite from the dishes. It’s just moving the home operation to a different base. But something about making those memories makes it worthwhile.

I bought Chase new shoes for school today and a Hello Kitty lunch box but before we get too far down that path we’re going to attempt one very final hurrah voyage to the, much closer, ocean. We still have to cross go to the beach and make macaroni necklaces off our bucket list. How’s your summer been so far?

Vintage Lately

Lately I’ve been enjoying reading over at Moddern Kiddo I’ve especially been enjoying their Retro Rainbow series. I like to read Fresh Vintage too. It’s like enjoying the thrill of the hunt without any of the inconvenience or expense!

Found! And My Incomplete Guide To The Finger Lakes

My camera is home! Maybe by way of East Aurora, NY where we left it, St. Catharines, Ontario where it hung out for a while and then Batavia, NY where it was returned to me outside a Tim Hortons but she is home nonetheless.  And with all our vacation photos on it! I kinda wish the guy who found it had taken a photo of himself and not just of the grass where he found it. His good deed totally merits a reward but I have no idea who the good samaritan is.   Read the rest of this entry »
